The NJTA is dedicated to the safe and efficient movement of people and goods along their toll roads. Position:

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority is accepting applications for Mechanical Craftsperson on the New Jersey Turnpike highway. The Mechanical Craftsperson installs, maintains, and repairs mechanical components and systems, including heating, refrigeration, plumbing, air conditioning, electrical machines, motors and compressors and signs.

Responsibilities:

Maintains, repairs, and installs air conditioning/refrigeration systems. Must be able to work independently and make good judgement decisions without extensive supervision and fulfill the physical requirements of the position. Maintains repairs and installs heating systems. Fabricate and install signage. Repairs and replaces all parts of toll booths (windows, doors, cash drawers, etc.). Repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures, water, and sewer lines. Installs and repairs locks and related hardware. Must be able to identify and order parts for equipment repairs. Perform general building maintenance functions including painting, plastering, and general carpentry work. Reports to Trades Foreman Craftsperson Field Supervisor or and may perform other tasks/functions as required. Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school, graduate, vocational school graduate or equivalent. 2. Trade school graduate with certification covering the four basic courses. (Heating, electrical, refrigeration and air conditioning). 3. The above may be substituted for college course credits in four basics (heating, electrical, refrigeration, and air conditioning). May have to take Authority mechanical examination. 4. Must posses a Universal Card and obtain a Black Seal License within one year of occupying the job title. 5. Must have a valid New Jersey Driver's license. 6. Must obtain a Commercial Driver's License within six months of occupying the job title.

Benefits and Pay :

Starting pay will be the minimum salary stated in this posting. Determination of work location or shift shall be made following offer of employment. Positions is located at one of the New Jersey Turnpike highway maintenance yards in Newark. This position is ineligible for flex time and/or telework. Toll-free commutation is available for employee travel to and from work on the NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. This position is represented by IFPTE Local 194. All Local 194 NJTA full time employees are entitled to participate in the following benefits per the guidelines of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA): Medical, dental, vision, and prescription insurance after applicable waiting period; enrollment in the NJ Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) if eligible; PERS Life insurance and PERS Supplemental Life Insurance; Group Life Insurance; Worker's Compensation Insurance; 457(b) Deferred Compensation plan; Time off including holidays, vacation days, sick days, personal days, leave of absences, and other pre-approved days off after applicable waiting periods.
