Responsibilities Install, service, and repair refrigeration units, HVAC systems, and related mechanical equipment in compliance with safety standards and manufacturer specifications. Diagnose electrical issues using diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters and troubleshoot complex electrical systems within HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration) units. Read schematics and technical diagrams to accurately identify system components and resolve operational issues efficiently. Perform routine maintenance on refrigeration and HVAC systems to ensure reliability and extend equipment lifespan. Conduct system upgrades including HVAC design modifications and system installation to improve performance. Utilize plumbing skills for refrigerant piping, drainage systems, and water supply connections associated with refrigeration units. Maintain detailed service records, complete work orders promptly, and communicate effectively with clients regarding repairs or system status. Support building automation systems integration for centralized control of HVAC and refrigeration equipment. Adhere to EPA regulations concerning refrigerant handling and environmental safety protocols. Assist in equipment troubleshooting using specialized tools such as welding equipment or hand tools for mechanical repairs. Participate in field service activities including emergency repairs, scheduled maintenance visits, and property maintenance tasks. Skills Extensive construction experience combined with service technician expertise in refrigeration, HVAC systems, and mechanical repairs. Strong understanding of schematics, electrical diagnostics, HVAC design principles, and building automation systems. Proficiency in plumbing techniques related to refrigerant piping and water supply connections. Knowledge of HVAC system repair procedures including compressor replacement, coil cleaning, and refrigerant recharge. Mechanical knowledge encompassing boiler operation, appliance repair, welding skills, and general property maintenance. Hands-on experience with hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, ohmmeters, and specialized diagnostic equipment. Ability to troubleshoot complex equipment issues efficiently through systematic diagnostics. Familiarity with electrical systems within HVAC/R units including wiring diagrams and electrical diagnostics. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to operate company vehicles safely. Strong customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients while providing professional support. Certification such as EPA 608 or equivalent is required; additional certifications in HVAC/R or ammonia refrigeration are advantageous. Experience working with mechanical systems repair, field service operations, or property maintenance is highly desirable.
