Facilities Mechanical Technician Job Description The Facilities Mechanical Technician supports critical facility operations in a large-scale data center environment. This role focuses on the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and HVAC systems that enable mission‑critical uptime. You will work with air conditioning systems, refrigeration cycles, chilled water systems, pumps, valves, and related controls while executing preventive and corrective maintenance programs and documenting all activities in a computerized maintenance management system. Responsibilities Perform day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of HVAC and mechanical systems in a critical facility environment. Inspect, monitor, and maintain chillers, cooling equipment, pumps, valves, piping systems, and associated control systems. Apply strong knowledge of air conditioning systems and refrigeration cycles to diagnose and resolve mechanical and HVAC issues. Complete preventive and corrective maintenance activities on facility equipment to ensure reliable and efficient performance. Manage, prioritize, and close work orders using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). Conduct quality inspections and equipment checks to verify systems are operating within established parameters and standards. Perform routine rounds, readings, and operational checks to identify abnormalities and prevent equipment failures. Troubleshoot mechanical issues involving chilled water systems, pumps, valves, motors, heat exchangers, compressors, and related equipment. Monitor and support transformer and power distribution unit (PDU) performance as it relates to mechanical and cooling systems. Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and equipment performance in a clear and accurate manner. Essential Skills 3+ years of experience in commercial HVAC, facilities maintenance, data centers, critical environments, or related mechanical systems. Strong understanding of air conditioning systems and their operation in large, mission-critical facilities. In-depth knowledge of refrigeration cycles and the ability to apply this knowledge to troubleshooting and repairs. Experience working with chillers and chilled water systems, including operation, maintenance, and diagnostics. Hands-on experience with pumps and pump operations, including performance monitoring and issue resolution. Proficiency with valves and valve controls, including inspection, adjustment, and replacement. Experience managing and completing work orders in a CMMS environment. Familiarity with heat exchangers, compressors, transformers, and power distribution units in a facility context. Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and HVAC monitoring tools. Strong communication skills for coordinating work and reporting issues. Solid documentation skills for recording maintenance activities, inspections, and equipment performance. Additional Skills & Qualifications Background in critical facility or data center environments is highly beneficial. Ability to interpret equipment readings and trends to anticipate and prevent failures. Comfort working with integrated mechanical, electrical, and control systems. Detail-oriented approach to quality inspections and preventive maintenance. Ability to work effectively in a structured work order and CMMS-driven environment. Work Environment This role is based in a large-scale data center and critical facility environment where reliability and uptime are essential. You will work closely with HVAC, mechanical, and power distribution infrastructure, including chillers, chilled water systems, pumps, valves, piping, heat exchangers, compressors, transformers, and power distribution units, as well as Building Management Systems and HVAC monitoring tools. The schedule follows a rotating pattern of 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. shifts, typically structured as 4 days on and 4 days off, followed by 3 days on and 3 days off, providing extended periods of time off while supporting continuous facility coverage. The environment is structured, process-driven, and focused on safety, precision, and adherence to operational standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ridgeville, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $36.00/hr.
