Job Description

The Cordillera Metro District Public Works Technician maintains and repairs more than 40 miles of paved roads, lighting and signage, road fencing, landscaping, open space and the equestrian center, as well as snowplowing and other winter emergencies. This role operates a variety of equipment and power tools, adheres to safety and security guidelines, and supports a positive and professional work environment. What You'll Do Receive and execute work orders from the Community Operations Supervisor, prioritizing tasks to meet district needs. Safely operate equipment including light-duty dump trucks, large plow trucks, backhoes, street sweepers, graders, and other heavy machinery. Use tools and materials appropriate to each job and follow project specifications.
Perform road maintenance duties:
litter removal, delineator installation/repair, speed bump work, sweeping, parking-lot cleaning, shoulder and asphalt patching, drainage maintenance, and guiderail/sign staining.
Maintain and service street signage:
install, straighten, replace, and stain signs as needed. Manage snow removal and winter operations: plowing, sidewalk/path shoveling, ice control, cinder/gravel hauling, snow storage management, and emergency response tasks. Apply carpentry finishing skills for maintenance projects: interior/exterior repairs, framework construction, and trim installation. Install interior fittings (cabinets, shelving, partitions) and complete related carpentry with standard tools. Be flexible and responsive to frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events. Foster a positive work atmosphere through professional communication with customers, co-workers, and managers. Uphold safety and security procedures; identify and report unsafe conditions; ensure proper use of equipment and materials. Collaborate with team members to maintain a supportive, engaging work environment. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; additional trade or technical training a plus. Proven experience operating a range of heavy equipment and power tools; mechanic or maintenance experience preferred. Strong safety mindset with ability to follow protocols and report hazards. Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills; customer-focused communication. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, weather conditions, and schedule requirements. Basic carpentry and interior/exterior repair skills. Valid driver's license; clean driving record. Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints or project plans is a plus. Physical ability to perform demanding fieldwork (lift, bend, crawl, stand, and work outdoors in varying weather).
