Job Title:
Commercial HVAC Install Technician Job Description The Commercial HVAC Install Technician installs, configures, and tests heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in commercial buildings. This role combines hands-on mechanical work with technical troubleshooting, quality control, and customer interaction to ensure every installation meets high standards of safety, performance, and reliability. Responsibilities Install a wide range of HVAC systems and components, including furnaces, air handlers, indoor coils, UV lights, air cleaners, and humidifiers in commercial facilities. Install outdoor coils and outdoor units, ensuring proper placement, secure mounting, and correct refrigerant and electrical connections. Design, fabricate, and install duct fittings and ductwork as required, ensuring proper airflow, structural integrity, and alignment with system specifications. Ensure all installations comply with manufacturer specifications, internal company standards, and applicable codes and regulations. Diagnose and repair refrigerants, TXV valves, compressors, and other HVAC components to restore system performance and reliability. Perform start-up procedures on air conditioning systems, verifying correct operation, calibrating controls, and documenting system settings. Check electrical wiring, thermostats, and distribution systems for any issues, and correct faults to maintain safe and efficient operation. Conduct inspections on newly installed and existing systems to ensure they are functioning correctly and safely. Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and services performed, including parts used, test results, and system configurations. Adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and safety standards during installation, service, and repair activities. Provide high-quality customer service by communicating clearly, answering questions, and maintaining a professional rapport with clients. Guide and advise customers on selecting appropriate air quality systems and solutions based on their needs and building requirements. Address client concerns promptly and effectively, ensuring customer satisfaction with completed work. Work independently under minimal or no supervision while managing daily tasks and priorities on job sites. Provide knowledge, training, and guidance to HVAC installer helpers, supporting their development and ensuring quality workmanship. Collaborate with other team members, including technicians and construction personnel, to ensure efficient project completion and coordination of tasks. Essential Skills Hands-on experience installing commercial HVAC systems, including furnaces, air handlers, indoor and outdoor coils, UV lights, air cleaners, and humidifiers. Ability to design, fabricate, and install duct fittings and ductwork in accordance with system requirements and industry standards. Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency working with hand tools and power tools in a construction and installation environment. Skill in diagnosing and repairing refrigerants, TXV valves, compressors, and other critical HVAC components. Knowledge of electrical wiring related to HVAC systems, including thermostats and distribution systems, with the ability to identify and correct issues. Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and safety standards governing HVAC installation and service work. Capability to perform system start-up procedures and verify proper operation of air conditioning and ventilation systems. Ability to maintain accurate documentation and records of installations, inspections, and service activities. Effective customer service skills, including clear communication, professionalism, and the ability to explain technical information in simple terms. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality standards. Teamwork and leadership skills to train and guide HVAC installer helpers and collaborate effectively with colleagues. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in construction environments, including general labor tasks related to HVAC installation projects. Familiarity with reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings for HVAC and mechanical systems. Basic plumbing and piping knowledge relevant to HVAC system connections and installations. Comfort working with a variety of mechanical and hand tools commonly used in HVAC, plumbing, and construction work. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control in both installation and inspection activities. Work Environment This role is based in commercial building environments, working on-site where HVAC systems are installed and serviced. The position involves physical tasks such as lifting equipment, working on ladders, and moving between indoor mechanical rooms and outdoor units in varying weather conditions. Standard work hours follow typical commercial construction schedules, with occasional adjustments based on project needs. Attire is practical and safety-focused, including appropriate workwear and personal protective equipment suitable for construction and HVAC installation work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Lexington, KY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.
