Portland Door Restoration is a collective of master craftsmen and women providing restoration and replication of doors and entrances, often historic in nature. We also design and fabricate entirely new doors and entrances that look old on completion. Working in wood, steel, and glass, we also replicate components of old houses such as door hardware, trim, moldings and other architectural details, Our Philosophy Few would deny that an entry door is one of the most important elements of a home. A visitor looks for the entry door when searching for a building, sees it up close on approach, and touches it when entering and exiting the building. In the life of a door this happens hundreds, maybe thousands of times. A door's age is a badge of honor. In its simplest form, a door is a movable barrier between two spaces. Whether a relatively simple layup of carefully selected wood, or an elegant hand carved work of art, the door extends an invitation to share space. At its best, a door has a presence and an elegance that comes from handcraft, carefully selected wood, and an intended sense of importance. Compensation is based on skillset, prior experience with door specific woodworking, and a portfolio of prior work. Duties Measure, cut, assemble, and install restored and custom doors, and door fixtures using hand tools and power tools with precision and care. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to ensure accurate fabrication and installation. Perform woodworking for door openings and structural elements required for the proper operation of doors. Conduct restoration projects involving aged and damaged doors to their original condition. Fabricate custom wood doors using traditional as well as sophisticated woodworking tools and woodworking techniques for various door restoration and replication projects. Install hardware including hinges, locks, caulking, fixtures, and trim carpentry elements with attention to detail. Assist in construction estimating by providing accurate material take-offs and labor assessments for projects involving woodwork or door fabrication Qualifications Proven experience in woodworking, door hanging, cabinet door installation, and trim carpentry within the construction or restoration setting. Proficiency with hand tools (saws, chisels, drills), power tools (routers, sanders, molders, shapers), for fabrication tasks Ability to read blueprints, schematics, schematics related to doors and door installations Knowledge of construction site safety protocols along with experience working on active construction sites and in residential settings Familiarity with door specific water damage restoration processes including the use of resins, fillers, paints, and restorative woodworking techniques. Ability to assist in the machine aided removal, manipulation of, and re-installation of large, heavy doors. Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on craftsmanship in projects such as installing hinges and other door hardware, preparing door openings, and hanging doors. Join our team if you're passionate about woodworking craftsmanship combined with a versatile skill set that spans from framing to finishing! We value safety-conscious professionals eager to contribute their expertise in an environment where every project is an opportunity to showcase your talent.
