A particular BMW, Mercedes-Benz, or Porsche system can be learned. It is much harder to teach someone how to think logically, stay curious, communicate clearly, take responsibility, and care deeply about the quality of the finished work. We are looking for someone who: Has advanced mechanical and diagnostic ability Is independent on most repairs Understands how to build a diagnostic plan rather than relying only on fault codes or guided procedures Is highly capable with electrical testing and data interpretation Has experience with European vehicles or comparable luxury and import systems Can use factory-level diagnostic equipment confidently Understands modern vehicle networks, modules, programming, and coding Documents findings clearly enough that an advisor can confidently explain them to the client Takes pride in accuracy, organization, and follow-through Accepts feedback without defensiveness and applies what they learn Is willing to ask for another perspective when it will lead to a better answer Shares knowledge instead of protecting it Can be trusted with a client's vehicle and with a developing technician who is learning from them Is dependable, punctual, accountable, respectful, and professional Approximately five or more years of professional experience is preferred. ASE certifications, advanced diagnostic credentials, and manufacturer-specific training are strongly valued but not required. However, Atlantic Motorcar will put diagnostic intelligence, electrical ability, character, curiosity, and quality of work ahead of an arbitrary number of years. High Standards Come With Real Support Bruce's leadership style is hands-on, mentoring, and standards-driven. Expectations are clear, but capable people are given room to think, make decisions, and take ownership. When you join the company, your workspace, uniforms, system access, schedule, and training plan are prepared before your first day. You are introduced to the team, paired with experienced people, and given time to understand Atlantic Motorcar's diagnostic, documentation, workflow, and quality-control processes. You will not be dropped into a bay and expected to figure out the company on your own.Communication continues through:
Regular All Hands meetings Monthly technician meetings One-on-one coaching Diagnostic case studies Hands-on technical workshops Quality-control discussions Individual goal and development plans Direct access to leadership and the shop foreman Technicians and service advisors are expected to speak directly, exchange information, and solve workflow problems together. When a process is not working, the focus is on identifying what needs to change, not deciding which department deserves the blame. Employee suggestions are welcomed, and leadership regularly makes adjustments based on what the people doing the work see and experience. Training Is Part of the Career Atlantic Motorcar expects technicians to complete approximately 40 hours of development each year through a combination of: Manufacturer-specific education ASE certification Online technical courses Hands-on vehicle training Diagnostic case studies New-tool and new-system demonstrations Outside trainers and industry partners Internal mentoring with the foreman and senior technicians The company has its own dedicated training center and even provides free educational opportunities to other independent repair shops and technicians in the region. Bruce, the owner, has written for ASA and Ratchet & Wrench and previously served on the Ratchet & Wrench editorial board. Each team member has an individual growth plan connecting training, certifications, diagnostic capability, efficiency, leadership, and responsibility to advancement and increased earning potential. For the right person, future opportunities may include mentoring, technical leadership, foreman responsibilities, and other leadership roles as the company expands. Good Work Gets Noticed A difficult diagnostic success, training accomplishment, exceptional repair, or major team win does not disappear into the next repair order. Accomplishments are recognized during technician meetings, All Hands meetings, team lunches, and company gatherings. Important repairs are shared so the person's contribution is recognized and the entire team benefits from what was learned. Atlantic Motorcar also has an annual peer-voted Ironman Award. Team members, not management, choose the person who best represents exceptional performance, reliability, teamwork, attitude, and contribution. The winner receives the traveling Helmet Trophy signed by previous recipients, along with an additional award. It is recognition from the people who work beside you and understand what your contribution required. Help Build What Comes Next Atlantic Motorcar is looking for someone who wants more than their next automotive job. This is for a technician who wants to: Master increasingly complex European vehicle technology Earn at a high level without living under flat-rate pressure Work with advisors and technicians who respect the craft Have the equipment and information needed to diagnose properly Contribute ideas and have a voice in how the shop improves Help developing technicians become better Grow into greater technical or leadership responsibility Build a long-term career while still having a life outside the shop Help carry a respected, independently owned company into its next generation If that sounds like the kind of career you have been working toward, we would like to learn more about you.
