VILLAGE OF BROOKLYN JOB
DEPT. Public Works Technician Summary of Job Description This person will act as directed in any aspect of the Public Works Department, including the Water Distribution System, the Sanitary Sewer Collection System, the Storm Water Collection and Discharge System, the Street System, Village Parks, and Buildings and Grounds. Supervision received and exercised The position is performed under the direction of the Director of Public Works.
Duties:
(As assigned) 1. Street maintenance. 2. Park maintenance, including cutting of grass, leaf removal and rest room maintenance. 3. Reading of water meters and lift station, water-pumping station meters. 4. Maintain trees and shrubs and other plantings in the Village right-of-ways and parks. 5. Leaf and brush removal in the Village. 6. Assist with snow removal from streets, Village parking lots and sidewalks. 7. On call, as scheduled, for water breaks and problems, sewer backups, snow removal, and other miscellaneous complaints. 8. Assist with the maintenance of decorative street lighting in the Main Street area. 9. Understand principles of employee safety, follow generally accepted safety practices, and report all accidents incurred. 10. Assist in cost saving measures in the department by obtaining approval before purchasing materials or equipment. 11. Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all department equipment used. 12. Rebuild and maintain all grinder can pumps. 13. Repair and maintain vehicles as directed, including oil change, grease, check all fluids and lights, etc. 14. Assist with the preventative maintenance of lift stations. 12. Any additional duties that may be requested. Summary of essential tasks 1). Must possess good vision, hearing and speech. 2). Must be able to understand and read and interpret manuals, notices and directives. 3). Must be able to interact with Village staff as a contributing member of a work team. 3). Must be able to understand directions and perform well under stressful conditions. 4). Position requires the ability to lift loads up to approximately 100 pounds utilizing proper techniques. In addition, the position requires the ability to read, review, comment, and correct blueprints and bid documents. Desirable qualifications for employment Ability to operate DPW equipment as deemed necessary by supervisor. Must be able to interact with Village staff as a contributing member of a work team. Ability to assist other Village staff as needed. Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with officials, employees and the general public. Hold or ability to obtain a valid CDL license. Have mechanical aptitude. Have electrical aptitude. Desire to grow and learn within the position and needs of the
