This position performs routine to complex maintenance, repair, inspection, and operational activities involving water and sewer lines, valves, hydrants, pumps, lift stations, and related infrastructure. The ideal candidate has hands-on utility or public works experience, is comfortable operating heavy equipment, and can work independently while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer service. Key Responsibilities Perform maintenance, repair, and operational activities for water distribution, wastewater collection, and municipal public works systems. Perform sewer jetting, CCTV inspections, right-of-way clearing, mowing, leaf and limb pickup, and other municipal services as assigned. Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair water and wastewater infrastructure, including main lines, service lines, valves, hydrants, pumps, lift stations, manholes, cleanouts, reservoirs, control valves, and related equipment. Perform preventive maintenance and inspections of pumps, motor control centers, meters, buildings, structures, fencing, gates, and other utility assets. Operate heavy equipment and specialized vehicles, which may include dump trucks, backhoes, excavators, dozers, Vactor trucks, sewer jetters, CCTV equipment, and leaf vacuum equipment. Use video inspection, leak detection, I&I testing, GPS, and other field equipment as required. Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, technical manuals, maps, and operational documents. Troubleshoot equipment and system issues and identify appropriate corrective actions. Coordinate daily field activities and work with office personnel to ensure work orders, customer requests, reports, and projects are completed accurately and on time. Document field activities, labor, materials, equipment usage, inventory, and completed work through the company's work order and asset management systems. Notify leadership of service interruptions, equipment failures, safety concerns, sanitary sewer overflows, water quality issues, and other significant operational events. Perform traffic control activities, including flagging and placement of cones, barrels, and message boards when required. Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition. Follow all company, OSHA, DOT, federal, state, and local safety requirements. Communicate professionally with customers, local officials, coworkers, supervisors, and other stakeholders. Participate in safety meetings, training, and other company programs as required. Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies as needed. Perform other public works, utility maintenance, and related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in utility maintenance, water/wastewater operations, public works, or a related field. Grade II Water and/or Grade II Wastewater license required. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire. Trenching and Shoring Competent Person training/certification required. Confined Space Entry training/certification preferred. DOT Flagger training/certification preferred. CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialized utility equipment. Basic computer skills and ability to use electronic work order systems, handheld devices, and GPS equipment. Ability to read and understand technical documents, blueprints, and safety procedures. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a field team. Work Requirements This is a field-based position that requires work in and around municipal water, wastewater, and public works infrastructure. Employees must be able to safely perform the physical and environmental requirements of the position and may be required to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. The position requires participation in on-call coverage and availability for emergency response outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of applicable pre-employment requirements, which may include a background check, drug screening, physical examination, and verification of authorization to work in the United States.
