Job Description
Job Overview Join our dynamic Public Works team as a Public Works Technician, where you will play a vital role in maintaining and improving community infrastructure. This energetic position offers the opportunity to work with a variety of heavy equipment and construction tools, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality public works projects. Your expertise will help keep our streets, utilities, and public spaces in excellent condition, making a tangible difference in residents' daily lives. Responsibilities Operate heavy equipment including dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and front loader trucks to perform construction, maintenance, and repair tasks. Assist with paving projects by preparing surfaces and executing paving operations with precision. Conduct utility locating to identify underground infrastructure before excavation or construction activities. Support construction site activities by setting up work zones, managing materials, and ensuring safety protocols are followed. Perform routine inspections and maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal operation and safety standards are met. Collaborate with team members on large-scale projects involving road repairs, utility upgrades, or new infrastructure development. Maintain detailed records of work performed, equipment usage, and safety inspections to ensure compliance with regulations. Qualifications Proven experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and front loader trucks. Knowledge of construction practices including paving and site preparation. Experience with utility locating using modern tools and techniques. Familiarity with construction site safety procedures and regulations. Ability to read technical manuals and blueprints is preferred. Strong teamwork skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving. Valid driver's license; commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred but not required. Nice-to-have skills include proficiency with Caterpillar equipment brands or similar heavy machinery expertise. Candidates with prior construction site experience or certifications in heavy equipment operation will stand out.
