Description:
The Service Technician is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep, cleaning, and routine maintenance of heavy equipment and small tools within a rental and repair shop environment. This role supports the shop team—including the Shop Foreman, Assistant Manager, and Owner—by ensuring all equipment is properly maintained, safe, and ready for customer use between rental periods. In addition to shop duties, this position includes a small but important customer-facing component, requiring basic computer skills and the ability to assist customers with rentals, phone inquiries, and equipment logistics. This is a hands-on, team-oriented position ideal for individuals with basic mechanical aptitude who are willing to learn and grow within the equipment service industry. Key Responsibilities Routine Maintenance & Equipment Readiness Perform daily inspections of rental equipment and small tools upon return Conduct routine maintenance such as greasing, oil checks, fluid top-offs, and filter cleaning Clean equipment thoroughly to prepare for the next rental Identify visible wear, damage, or safety concerns and report to senior technicians or management Assist in preventative maintenance schedules to reduce downtime and extend equipment life Shop Support & Team Coordination Work under the direction of the Shop Foreman, Assistant Manager, and Owner to prioritize daily tasks Communicate equipment status updates clearly with team members Assist skilled technicians with basic repair tasks as needed Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work environment Equipment Handling & Yard Duties Move equipment within the yard/shop safely (training provided as needed) Stage equipment for upcoming rentals and returns Assist with loading and unloading customer equipment when required Customer Service & Administrative Support Answer incoming phone calls and assist customers with basic rental inquiries Create and complete rental tickets, including check-outs and returns, using shop software Process customer orders, reservations, and payments with accuracy Coordinate and assist with scheduling equipment deliveries and pickups Provide friendly, professional customer interaction in person and over the phone Direct customer concerns or technical questions to appropriate team members when needed Safety & Compliance Follow all shop safety procedures and guidelines Use proper tools, PPE, and handling techniques at all times Report hazards, accidents, or unsafe equipment immediatelyRequirements:
Requirements and Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Basic mechanical aptitude or willingness to learn Basic computer skills (data entry, rental software, email, etc.) Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team Comfortable working with hands, tools, and outdoor conditions Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical tasks throughout the day Valid driver's license and clean driving record requiredSimilar jobs in Alamogordo, NM
