Job Description
Senior Security & Life Safety Technician Tech Knowledge Express is seeking an experienced Senior Technician to join our field service team. We are looking for a highly motivated, independent technician who can confidently perform installation, service, preventative maintenance, commissioning, and advanced troubleshooting across a variety of low-voltage, security, and life-safety systems. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working independently in the field, interacting directly with customers, diagnosing complex problems, and taking ownership of service calls from arrival through final resolution. Primary Responsibilities The Senior Technician will install, service, maintain, troubleshoot, and commission systems including: Fire Alarm Systems Intrusion / Security Systems CCTV / Video Surveillance Systems Access Control Systems Intercom and related low-voltage systems Structured Cabling Network Cabling Network Switches and basic network infrastructure Power supplies, control panels, field devices, relays, and associated equipment Technical Responsibilities Perform basic and advanced troubleshooting of system hardware, wiring, communications, programming, and network-related issues. Diagnose system failures and determine appropriate corrective actions. Perform installation, replacement, repair, programming, testing, and commissioning of equipment. Perform preventative maintenance inspections and identify potential system deficiencies before they result in failures. Test system functionality and verify proper operation following repairs, upgrades, or installations. Read and interpret wiring diagrams, floor plans, equipment drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. Trace, terminate, test, label, and troubleshoot low-voltage cabling. Configure and troubleshoot basic network devices and network-connected security equipment. Work with manufacturers and technical support when required to resolve complex system issues. Maintain technical proficiency through manufacturer training, self-study, research, documentation, and hands-on practice. Maintain familiarity with new technologies and products used within the security, fire, access control, video surveillance, and networking industries. Customer Service Responsibilities Communicate professionally with customers upon arrival, throughout the service visit, and before leaving the site. Develop a clear understanding of the customer's reported issue, system configuration, operational requirements, and expectations. Proactively communicate findings, recommended repairs, deficiencies, and system concerns. Explain completed work and system status to the customer before leaving the site. Maintain a professional appearance and represent Tech Knowledge Express appropriately at all customer locations. Documentation & Administrative Responsibilities Accurately complete service tickets, inspection reports, installation documentation, commissioning paperwork, and other required field documentation. Document troubleshooting steps, repairs performed, equipment replaced, programming changes, and outstanding recommendations. Maintain accurate records of materials and equipment used. Provide clear documentation for follow-up work when additional service, parts, engineering, or customer approval is required. Maintain company tools, test equipment, inventory, and assigned equipment in good working condition. Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Adhere to applicable local, state, and national electrical, fire, building, and life-safety codes. Follow OSHA requirements and accepted industry safety practices. Maintain required local, state, and national Fire/Security industry licenses and certifications applicable to assigned work. Maintain safe work practices when using ladders, lifts, power tools, testing equipment, and working in active customer environments.
