Overview Join our dynamic music store team as a Musical Instrument Repair Technician, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the functionality and playability of various music instruments. Although this is a part-time/contract position, there will be a good volume of repairs, because we do intake at both of our store locations, as well as public school music repair accounts. You will be responsible for maintaining and preparing a wide range of musical instrument repairs, ensuring that your repair work meets standards of cleanliness, restoring playability and functionality to brass, woodwind, school band percussion, orchestral string instrument repairs. You will be responsible for maintaining and organizing a clean workshop environment, maintaining good records and individual itemized repair descriptions and have good general book keeping and invoicing practices. Responsibilities Perform detailed inspection, cleaning, sterilization, repairs and maintenance of various musical instruments Inspect instruments for damage, wear, or malfunction, and coordinate detailed repairs as needed. Manage all parts and repair inventory brought through the shop, and keep track of supplies, accurately tracking usage and replenishing stock to prevent shortages. Ensure all instruments are properly labeled, stored, and documented according to intake protocols and policies, and organizing tasks so that work is done in a timely manner and up to standards. Apply comprehensive knowledge of musical instruments including brass, woodwind, band percussion, string instruments, and follow best practices regarding maintenance procedures. An applicant for this position should be bonded and insured, familiar with the requirements of quality assurance standards, understand warranty work and guarantee requirements, and be able to identify any exceptions (catastrophic exceptions that will not covered under warranty, or other categories). Maintain detailed records of each instrument, school repair account cycle, itemized accounting of instrument repairs, and inventory logs for compliance and quality assurance purposes. Follow strict sanitization techniques during all processing activities to prevent contamination and infection risks. Follow all OSHA and Water and Fire regulations regarding fumes, chemical cleaning water disposal, use and storage of flammable materials, and the disposal of other materials that may be toxic or hazardous. Qualifications Proven experience in the field of musical instrument repair and maintenance within a robust music store and instrument repair work shop environment. Strong understanding of repair and maintenance terminology, anatomy of the instruments, and instrument playability requirements. Demonstrated proficiency in inventory management systems to track supplies efficiently. Knowledge of various industry techniques, bench sterilization or chemical processing procedures essential for preventing infection transmission and cross contamination of tools or other surfaces or work areas during musical instrument repair and bench sanitization, and a strong understanding of general safety in the workshop, including proper chem clean and flush water disposal techniques. Ability to work independently with attention to detail while adhering to strict safety, industry driven repair standards, and time management protocols. Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively, in a fast-paced setting. Good time management skills. Understanding best practices and using efficient shop schedule optimization. Relevant certifications in woodwind, brass, percussion and stringed instrument repair and maintenance is preferred. •BIR or NABIRT, Luthiers Guild, or other Technical Certification or Apprenticeship qualifications are preferred.
