No Position Purpose The Building Service Technician I - Apprentice is an entrylevel position in the Trades Apprentice Program. The Apprentice will develop a specified level of skill and proficiency in the execution of duties related to general maintenance and repair at Dartmouth College. This role will participate in instructorled and onthejob training. Performs maintenance and repairs on Dartmouth College academic and administrative buildings, structures, fixtures, and utilities, both on a scheduled work order basis and in response to emergencies. This work is carried out under general or direct supervision, utilizing a variety of trade practices associated with the Equipment Maintenance Shop. Tasks range from simple to more complex, depending on the level of supervision required. Work location may be anywhere on the Dartmouth campus. Description Required Qualifications Education and Yrs Exp High School or equivalency Required Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities High school graduate or equivalent. Mechanically inclined with a desire to obtain experience and knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems and controls. Valid driver's license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle policy Ability to use common hand tools such as screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches and power tools, including drills, hammer drills, reciprocating saw Ability to follow oral and written instructions and work independently under minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment and applying problemsolving solid skills. Ability to learn Dartmouth College construction standards. Strong customer service and good communication skills; ability to communicate work to be performed with college employees and building occupants. Computer skills include basic word processing, email, and spreadsheets. Smartphone skills to use vendor software for programming various basic electric components. Ability to analyze and evaluate issues and develop creating responsive solutions. Ability to document and record issues and procedures. Ability to perform demanding physical activity, work at heights and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity under physically difficult and strenuous conditions. Is capable of participating in the College's respiratory protection program and responding to alarms, including potentially hazardous environments. Willingness to work overtime when required. Willingness to obtain further (vendor) training, whether online, locally, in person, or remotely.
