In this role, you'll help maintain safe, attractive, and sustainable parks, fields, and public spaces throughout the city. About the Role As a Public Works Technician, you'll work year-round supporting Vineyard's weed abatement program, grounds maintenance operations, and irrigation systems. You'll also assist with arborist-related tasks to help care for city trees and provide support for general facility maintenance. This position offers hands-on variety, problem-solving opportunities, and a chance to make a direct impact on the community's beauty and safety.
Key Responsibilities Weed Abatement Program:
Implement and manage noxious weed control on city-owned properties using mechanical and chemical methods, ensuring compliance with regulations.
Grounds Maintenance:
Maintain turf, shrubs, and landscaped areas; operate landscaping equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and chainsaws; assist with seasonal planting and clean-up.
Irrigation System Maintenance:
Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems; diagnose and troubleshoot issues to ensure efficient water use and healthy landscapes.
Arboriculture Support:
Assist with tree planting, pruning, removals, and tree health monitoring, including helping keep the city's tree inventory current.
Facility Maintenance Support:
Assist with general maintenance tasks to support city facilities. Ideal Candidate Two years of experience in irrigation system installation, maintenance, or related landscaping work preferred Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot irrigation issues Proficiency with landscaping tools and equipment Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions Valid driver's license Experience identifying and controlling noxious weeds; herbicide application experience preferred Familiarity with irrigation systems, turf care, and basic arboriculture Additional Preferences Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License (or willingness to obtain within 6 months) ISA Certified Arborist credential (or willingness to pursue)
