The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the deployment, installation, and maintenance of fiber optic and 5G wireless networks, including the setup and configuration of computer servers for distribution at client edge data center sites. This role requires a strong understanding of the integration between fiber networks and 5G small cells, macro towers, and advanced technologies like Massive MIMO and active antennas, ensuring reliable, high-quality broadband services for both residential and commercial clients. A key aspect of this role involves proficiently installing fiber optic cables within residential and business environments, adhering to industry best practices, and setting up associated customer premise equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, troubleshoot, and maintain fiber optic and wireless broadband networks, with emphasis on 5G infrastructure and small cell densification. Support capacity planning and deployment for fiber-based back-haul and front-haul connections on macro towers and remote radio sites. Assist in the installation and configuration of 5G small cells, including fiber-to-the-antenna (FTTA) solutions. Unpack, rack, stack, and test computer servers for delivery and deployment at client edge data center sites, ensuring proper labeling, documentation, and organization of equipment and cabling. Install fiber optic cables within commercial and residential environments, adhering to industry best practices. Measure and route fiber optic cables accurately, minimizing slack and ensuring optimal signal performance. Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on fiber and wireless network equipment. Collaborate with engineering teams on network upgrades, capacity planning, and new installations. Maintain accurate records of installations, configurations, and repairs. Ensure compliance with safety standards and local regulations during all tasks. Provide technical support during network outages, upgrades, and repairs. Assist with the physical and logical configuration of network devices, servers, and related hardware. Support the integration of fiber optic infrastructure with 5G technology to ensure seamless connectivity. Set up customer equipment, including Plume SuperPods, power strips, and media converters. Troubleshoot connectivity issues and use fiber power meters to test signal strength and diagnose problems. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in networking, fiber optics, or telecommunications preferred. Proven experience with fiber optic and wireless broadband network deployment and maintenance. Familiarity with 5G networks, small cell technologies, and macro tower infrastructure. Experience with server hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting. Knowledge of fiber-to-the-antenna (FTTA), Massive MIMO, and active antenna systems. Ability to lift and handle heavy equipment, including server racks and other similar items. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and team collaboration abilities. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Demonstrated proficiency in installing fiber optic cables within residential environments, adhering to industry best practices and safety standards. Comprehensive understanding of fiber optic equipment and materials, including clear fiber drop cables (CFDC), clear track fiber pathways (CTFP), fiber wall plates, media converters, and SFP transceivers. Ability to measure accurately and route fiber optic cables, minimizing slack and ensuring optimal signal performance. Experience with using fiber optic installation tools, such as cable staplers, push tubes, and fiber strippers. Knowledge of customer equipment setup, including Plume SuperPods, power strips, and media converters.Skills and Certifications:
Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Fiber Optic Technician Certification, or Cisco certifications are a plus. Knowledge of capacity planning and network architecture for large-scale broadband deployments. Ability to interpret technical diagrams and schematics.Fiber Optic Cabling:
Skill in determining optimal routes for installing fiber cables both indoors and outdoors. Demonstrated ability to splice fiber cables to within accepted industry standards for efficient data transfer and minimal signal loss.Measurement & Precision:
Ability to measure distances and slack accurately for fiber cable runs.Installation Techniques:
Ability to utilize a variety of handheld power equipment (power drills, reciprocating saws, etc.) Experience using the Clear Track ILU Fiber Installation Tool for securing CTFP. Inserting cables into push tubes and securing them with staples or fasteners.Connectorization & Termination:
Properly peeling back cable jackets and exposing clear fiber cables.
