Telecommunications Technician - POTS Line Audit (Project-Based, Hourly)

CCi Voice, Inc. — a UCaaS/hosted communications provider serving clients across Connecticut and New York.
Job Type:
Hourly, per-project / 1099 contractor basis. Flexible scheduling based on client site visits.
Location:
On-site at client locations throughout CT and NY. Overview CCi Voice is seeking experienced telecom technicians to perform on-site POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) line audits for commercial clients. This role involves identifying, testing, and documenting all active analog phone lines at a client site as part of a telecom modernization project. Responsibilities Locate and inspect Telco termination equipment on-site (RJ-21X, 110 Block, Krone Block, screw terminal blocks, surge-protected blocks, gas suppressors, Telco strip boxes) Test each line for live or dead dial tone using a Telco test set ("butt set") Place outbound test calls to identify and record what's on each line (live answer, auto attendant, voicemail, fax, modem, ring-no-answer, disconnect recording, busy signal) Identify and record the actual phone number associated with each labeled or unlabeled dial tone Document all findings accurately in an Excel spreadsheet provided by CCi Voice Work efficiently and independently while maintaining a clean, organized job site Required Knowledge & Skills Hands-on familiarity with RJ-21X blocks (25-pair, 25 dial tone capacity) and standard RJ-21X labeling conventions Working knowledge of Telco termination equipment and termination methods (66 Block, 110 Block, Krone Block, screw terminal) Proficiency with a cut-down/termination tool Experience using a Telco test set ("butt set") to make/receive calls and test lines Understanding of Centrex service Comfortable using Microsoft Excel for field documentation Tools Technician Must Provide Basic telecom hand tools (wire cutters/dykes, needle-nose pliers, Phillips & flathead screwdrivers) Cut-down tool with 66, 110, and Krone blades Telco "can" wrench Tone generator and probe
