Job Description

Fiber Infrastructure Audit & Survey Technician Position Summary:
Responsible for conducting field audits, inspections, and documentation of existing fiber optic infrastructure to support network assessments, capacity analysis, asset validation, and citywide FTTH expansion planning. The technician will verify field conditions, collect asset data, identify deficiencies, and provide accurate records for engineering and municipal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect and document handholes, cabinets, splice enclosures, conduit systems, aerial plant, splitters, and service drops. Verify fiber routes against existing records and as-built documentation. Collect GPS coordinates, photographs, and field notes for all assets. Identify damaged, missing, mislabeled, or inaccessible infrastructure. Perform fiber identification, continuity testing, and OTDR testing when required. Validate fiber assignments, splitter utilization, and available network capacity. Document deficiencies and recommend corrective actions. Support GIS, CAD, and engineering teams with accurate field data.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of fiber optic construction, maintenance, or OSP experience. Working knowledge of
FTTH/PON
network architecture. Ability to read fiber assignment sheets, splice diagrams, and construction drawings. Experience with GPS data collection and Microsoft Office applications. Valid driver's license and ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
Preferred Certifications:
OSHA 10/30, FOA
CFOT, Traffic Control Certification, and Confined Space Awareness.
Project Deliverables:
Asset inventory, GPS locations, photo documentation, route verification, fiber capacity data, infrastructure deficiency reports, GIS/as-built corrections, and recommendations supporting the City of Dunnellon's FTTH audit and expansion planning efforts.
Pay:
$25.00 - $33.00 per hour
