Job Description

Floyd County is looking for a Utilities Locator!
JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of this classification is to accurately locate, identify, and mark County-owned utility lines and related infrastructure to support safe excavation activities, protect public utilities, maintain accurate system records, and ensure compliance with applicable safety standards and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following functions are typically associated with this position. The omission of specific statements does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical extension of this role. Other duties may be required and assigned. Locates and marks County-owned utility lines, including manholes, service connections, valves, and related infrastructure using maps, electronic locating equipment, and field measurements. Updates maps, photographs, computer databases, and related documentation to maintain accurate utility location records. Responds to locate requests, complaints, and inquiries from employees, contractors, and the public; researches issues and assists with problem resolution. Operates and maintains assigned vehicles, tools, and locating equipment; performs routine inspections and reports equipment problems or repair needs. Uses hand tools and specialized locating equipment to perform utility locating activities safely and effectively. Adheres to established safety procedures and traffic control practices; places signs, cones, markers, and flags to ensure safety at work sites. Maintains knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and industry practices through training and professional development. Communicates and coordinates with supervisors, County staff, contractors, engineers, and other individuals to support daily operations and project activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent; six (6) months of experience/ in the meter reading or utility maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
