Job Title:
Communications Technician Job Description The Communications Technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs low voltage electrical systems with a primary focus on radio, communications, radar, telecom, internet, security systems, and fire alarms. This position works mainly in commercial and industrial environments and involves both construction and service work, including system diagnostics, wiring, and equipment configuration. Responsibilities Install, test, and maintain fire alarm systems and other low voltage systems, including security, access control, and CCTV. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to plan and execute installations and repairs. Pull, route, terminate, and label low voltage wiring and cabling in commercial and industrial settings. Program and configure control panels, communication equipment, and related devices for optimal system performance. Perform inspections and testing to ensure systems comply with applicable electrical codes, standards, and local regulations. Troubleshoot and repair system faults, malfunctions, and communication issues in radio, communications, radar, telecom, and internet systems. Install and work with conduit, cable pathways, and associated low voltage infrastructure on construction projects. Use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively to complete installations, repairs, and modifications. Collaborate with project managers, general contractors, and other trades on job sites to coordinate work and meet project timelines. Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and system configurations for each project or service call. Provide clear, professional communication and excellent customer service to clients and site contacts. Work safely on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces while adhering to safety procedures and site requirements. Support both new construction installations and ongoing service, repair, and maintenance work as needed. Essential Skills Minimum of 5 years of experience in low voltage electrical work, preferably involving communications, radio, telecom, and internet systems. Working knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and local regulations related to low voltage systems. Proficiency in installing, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm, security, access control, and CCTV systems. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. Hands-on experience pulling, terminating, and labeling low voltage wiring and cabling. Ability to program and configure control panels and related low voltage devices. Strong troubleshooting skills in radio, communications, radar, telecom, and internet systems, including electrical diagnostics and repair. Experience installing and working with conduit, cable, and low voltage infrastructure in construction environments. Skilled in the safe use of power tools and hand tools for installation and repair tasks. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to supply and effectively use personal tools needed for low voltage work. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail in all aspects of installation and service. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, work on ladders and lifts, and perform tasks in confined spaces. Comfort working in various environmental conditions, including indoor and outdoor settings. Additional Skills & Qualifications Specific industry training in low voltage, communications, or related systems that can support a higher pay rate. Specific certification such as GROL (General Radiotelephone Operator License) is highly valued. Experience in military communications or similar structured communications environments is a strong plus. Experience with construction-site work, including coordination with multiple trades and adherence to site safety protocols. Familiarity with both low voltage and high voltage environments, with low voltage as the primary focus. Demonstrated ability to handle both installation and repair work across a variety of low voltage systems. Candidates with less than five years of experience may be considered if they demonstrate a strong attitude, aptitude, and interview performance. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role operates primarily in commercial and industrial settings, often on active construction sites and in occupied facilities. Work may take place both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions and typical construction-site environments. The position requires regular use of ladders, lifts, and power tools, as well as working in confined spaces when needed. Standard work hours are generally Monday through Friday starting around 7:00 a.m., with some projects starting as early as 6:00 a.m. and certain service calls beginning at 8:00 a.m., depending on project and client requirements. The work involves hands-on installation, wiring, and troubleshooting of low voltage systems in a safety-conscious, tool-intensive setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Savannah, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
