Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY
Installs, maintains, and services customer connections to the cable television and telephone plant. Typically installs drop cable and network interface devices, configures customer premise equipment, performs initial wiring or rewiring on new and existing subscriber service, and performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance on existing cable plant and customer premise equipment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Installs new services and associated equipment for new and existing subscribers using Madison Communications, Inc. specifications, including the aerial and buried drop wire, network interface device, inside wiring, appropriate filters, digital and analog set top converters, cable modems, and other associated equipment. Correctly analyzes and isolates cable television drop problems from subscriber set to system tap. Correctly analyzes and isolates telephone problems from subscriber CPE to CO. Correctly interprets and neatly completes service orders, trouble tickets, reports of plant condition, cut line reports, time sheets, and other reports as required. Ensures quality customer service by responding to customer inquiries, problems, and complaints. Provides acceptable resolutions during and after normal business hours (rotational on-call basis). Correctly interprets system maps to obtain service order information, including pole number, amplifier number, and map number for subscriber plant records. Properly programs various customer premise equipment. Locates all underground facilities, including fiber, copper, conduit, and manholes. Makes recommendations to Technical Operations Manager for improvements to existing policies and procedures. Performs all other related duties as assigned by management.• These tasks do not meet the Americans With Disabilities Act definition of essential job functions and are usually less than 5% of time spent. However, these tasks still constitute important performance aspects of the job.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of company policies, products, services, and procedures. Basic knowledge of cable television and telephone test equipment operation. Basic knowledge of drop installation. Basic knowledge of cable television and telephone system operation. Basic knowledge of electronic components such as modems, wireless routers, TV's, stereos, home entertainment systems, computers. Basic knowledge of fiber optic networks. Basic knowledge of VoIP, Home Networking, High Speed Internet Equipment. Basic knowledge of CAT5 and Coax wiring Customer Sales and Education on products and services Skill in operating service vehicles, hand tools, and construction equipment. Skill in reading, interpreting, and preparing documents, such as service orders, system maps, trouble tickets, and time sheets. Skill in problem solving and resolution. Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to effectively function as a team player. Ability to pay close attention to details. Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand.
