A Telecommunications Field Technician telecommunications Field Service Technician installs, repairs and maintains voice, data and video systems for a company's customers at the customer site. Prepares and documents a customer's network prior to implementing telecommunication system. Installs IP, network equipment and facilities. Acts as the first point of issue resolution, responds to field engineering issues and troubleshooting telecommunication problems. May train less experienced field technicians.

Job Description

As a Fiber OSP or Power Field Technician, you will be responsible for the collection of field data on utility poles for proposed overhead fiber routes and power make-ready design and/or field data collection for proposed underground fiber routes. The field data collection will support the Fiber Engineering and Power Engineering Teams with overhead, underground and/or joint use make-ready design. 1-3 years of experience required with an understanding of engineering design standards, NESC requirements and internal processes, including overhead utility pole design, underground and overhead fiber design, clearance assessment, pole loading analysis and construction package development. The candidate will collect field data using industry standard data collection tools (tablets, hot-sticks, cameras, etc.) in conjunction mapping software (O-Calc, Katapult Pro, etc.)

DESIGN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ability to work 100% outside in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Perform field surveys to document existing site conditions of telecommunications and power infrastructure.
  • Perform field "walk-out", evaluate attachment conditions, pole conditions, pole loading and determine make-ready requirements.
  • Survey and document existing conduit, duct banks, handholes, manholes, utility poles, building entrances, telecom rooms and other telecommunication and power facilities, as needed.
  • Take field measurements, photographs, and notes and incorporate field information into required data collection software.
  • Review existing overhead infrastructure (power & fiber) and make necessary make-ready design recommendations per NESC, client and company standards.
  • Incorporates quality feedback into daily production processes to ensure high-quality work output.
  • Interfaces with team leads as required to ensure consistency in project specifications, standards, procedures, and design techniques.
  • Meets all project production targets and quality expectations within (90) days of hire and on an ongoing basis.
  • Extensive knowledge of aerial and underground for both long and short haul fiber networks.
Job Requirements:
  • 1-3 years in telecommunication industry experience preferred but not required
  • 1-3 years in power industry experience preferred but not required.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Proficient with Auto
CAD, ESRI
(ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Field Maps), 3GIS, Katapult Pro, and/or similar design and GIS software.
  • Experience developing, maintaining and analyzing geospatial datasets, databases, shapefiles, etc.
  • Previous telecommunications engineering and design experience.
  • Experience supporting long-haul fiber, FTTX, backbone fiber, or broadband deployment projects.
Pay:
$24.00 - $32.00 per hour
