Jobs › Pittsfield, MA › Telecommunications / Fiber Optic T… RingSquared APC LLC Telecommunications / Fiber Optic Tech Pittsfield, MA Apply Job Summary The Senior Telecommunications / Fiber Optic Technician is a highly skilled, hands-on field technician responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic networks, as well as periodically installing and troubleshooting wireless, video, and networking systems. This role requires the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with fellow technicians, engineers, and operations staff to ensure successful project execution. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical expertise, excellent troubleshooting skills, and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset. Key Responsibilities Cable Installation & Maintenance
  • Install fiber optic and CAT6 cabling in aerial, underground, and in-building environments
  • Route, secure, label, and terminate cables according to best practices
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of fiber and copper networks
  • Replace or repair faulty cables, connectors, and components as needed Fiber Splicing & Termination
  • Perform fusion and mechanical splicing of fiber optic cables
  • Terminate fiber optic cables using industry-standard tools and techniques
  • Ensure splicing and termination work meets company and industry specifications Testing & Troubleshooting
  • Use optical test equipment (OTDRs, power meters, and light sources) to test and analyze fiber networks
  • Interpret test results and identify performance or reliability issues
  • Diagnose complex technical problems and collaborate with engineering and support teams as needed
  • Respond to service calls and resolve issues efficiently in the field Documentation & Reporting
  • Accurately document installations, splicing records, test results, and maintenance activities
  • Complete service reports and system documentation in a timely manner Teamwork & Collaboration
  • Work cooperatively with other technicians, engineers, and field personnel to complete projects efficiently
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with coworkers to coordinate tasks and resolve issues
  • Support team goals by sharing technical knowledge and best practices
  • Maintain a positive, professional attitude in fast-paced field environments Customer Interaction
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding work performed and system status
  • Provide technical explanations and recommendations as appropriate
  • Identify potential service improvements or upsell opportunities and relay them to management Compliance & Safety
  • Follow all safety protocols, company procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Safely operate company vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment Qualifications Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical training or fiber optic certification preferred Experience
  • 8+ years of strong hands-on experience with fiber optics, telecommunications, and networking systems
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team on complex installations and repairs Skills & Competencies
  • Advanced knowledge of fiber optic installation, termination, and troubleshooting
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with others
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a field environment
  • Flexible availability, including participation in on-call rotation
  • Familiarity with mobile tools and applications (Salesforce, Microsoft Office)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
