Job Description

Position Summary The Field Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of fiber-optic facilities, customer premise equipment, and network communications systems throughout the Dakota Central service area. This position supports broadband internet, voice, video, and data services by installing, provisioning, troubleshooting, and maintaining network infrastructure and customer equipment. The Field Technician works closely with customers and coworkers to ensure reliable service delivery while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, customer service, teamwork, and continuous learning. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Network Installation & Service Install, provision, maintain, and troubleshoot broadband, voice, video, and data services. Install and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, IP phones, ONTs, surveillance cameras, IPTV equipment, and related customer premise equipment. Install, remove, upgrade, downgrade, and modify residential and business services. Educate customers on the operation of installed equipment and services. Ensure professional installation practices, including neat cable routing and proper grounding. Fiber & Outside Plant Operations Construct, maintain, test, locate, and repair fiber-optic facilities. Prepare and splice fiber-optic cable. Install buried drops, station wiring, network interface devices, and FTTx equipment. Perform cable locates and maintain accurate records of facility locations. Read and interpret maps, staking sheets, cut sheets, and construction documentation. Repair and maintain outside plant facilities, drop wire, and subscriber stations. Maintenance & Troubleshooting Respond to service orders, trouble tickets, and maintenance assignments. Diagnose and repair issues affecting voice, video, internet, and network services. Utilize testing and diagnostic tools including OTDRs, optical power meters, visual fault locators, and fusion splicers. Perform routine maintenance on central office equipment and facilities. Customer Service & Communication Provide exceptional service to internal and external customers. Communicate professionally and courteously with customers, coworkers, and business contacts. Answer customer inquiries or refer concerns to appropriate personnel. Promote company products, services, and features when appropriate. Operations & Safety Maintain assigned vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe working condition. Keep vehicles properly stocked with required materials and supplies. Complete required paperwork, material tracking, charge-outs, and documentation accurately and timely. Participate in on-call rotations as assigned. Follow all OSHA, FCC, company safety policies, and traffic regulations. Use required personal protective equipment and attend safety training. Additional Responsibilities Operate equipment such as bucket trucks, forklifts, skid steers, backhoes, trenching equipment, snowmobiles, and ATVs as needed. Participate in company and industry training programs. Travel throughout the service area, including occasional overnight travel. Perform other duties as assigned.
Pay:
$29.91 - $46.01 per hour
