A Telecommunications Field Technician telecommunications Field Service Technician installs, repairs and maintains voice, data and video systems for a company's customers at the customer site. Prepares and documents a customer's network prior to implementing telecommunication system. Installs IP, network equipment and facilities. Acts as the first point of issue resolution, responds to field engineering issues and troubleshooting telecommunication problems. May train less experienced field technicians.
3 month contract Role Description The Field Technician I supports day-to-day network operations through installation support, basic testing, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of telecom/network equipment and critical site infrastructure. This role also manages materials and inventory (shipping/receiving, replenishment, tracking spares) and completes detailed documentation in internal systems. What You'll Do Network & Service Support Assist with installation, provisioning, testing, maintenance, change, and decommission work for network services (DS0 through OC192) Support next-generation technologies as assigned (Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic Transport, Ethernet, SONET, IP network layers) May install and test network and customer premise equipment (CPE) and help deliver end-user services Troubleshooting & Restoration Troubleshoot network equipment; remove/replace defective modules/equipment and help restore service Monitor/locate routes and assist with restoration activities during service interruptions Proactively identify potential problem areas to maintain network integrity Outside Plant / Facility Protection Use industry-standard tools/software to locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities Work from as-builts/right-of-way information as needed Asset Management & Materials Process deliveries and replenish consumables and on-site/truck stock Coordinate shipping and receiving of company and customer materials Track spares, update inventory records, and maintain tools/test sets and network equipment Preventive Maintenance Perform level 1 preventive/scheduled maintenance and inspections on network and critical infrastructure, including: HVAC systems High-voltage electrical systems DC power plants (including tertiary and BDCBB work) Limited AC power work (as assigned) Documentation & Systems Learn and use internal systems for trouble tickets, provisioning, time reporting, and materials tracking Update installation records, enter detailed ticket notes, and provide status updates/escalations to management as needed Required Qualifications High School Diploma/GED or 1 year of relevant experience (telecom/network/adjacent industry) 0-2 years of experience in network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair (entry-level) Valid driver's license; ability to work in all weather conditions Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management Comfortable using a PC (Windows, Microsoft Office) and learning new databases/systems Ability to maintain site security, cleanliness, and safety standards Preferred Qualifications 2+ years of relevant experience and/or education in Electronics or Telecommunications Experience/knowledge in at least one of the following disciplines: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET) Switching (circuit-switching/SS7) TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols) Outside Plant (fiber locating, OTDR, splicing, etc.) Knowledge of fiber locating, right-of-way practices, and as-built documentation Physical Requirements Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
