Alden Systems is a software and services firm dedicated to the telecommunications and power Utility industry. Utility Field Technician The technicians will be assigned inspection locations and will be tasked with: locating underground communication facilities (pedestals handholes, and similar equipment) recording inspection information into Alden's collection software. In addition to basic data collection about the facility, technicians will be tasked with the following actions: Accessing the interior of facilities with provided tools Assessing the facility for National Electric Safety Code Compliance Placement of identifying stencils and inventory tags Removal / coverup of graffiti and stickers All employees must undergo a stringent background check and pre-employment drug screen DUI, reckless driving, drug charge, or excessive traffic violations will result in immediate disqualification. This vehicle must be insured (insurance requirements will be given at time of hire). You must be capable and willing to fulfill the physical requirements of the job, including: Walking up to 5 miles/day Be able to open handhole lids, which may weigh up to 75 pounds Bending, stooping, and kneeling Use of small hand-tools (wrenches, pliers, torches) Work in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain. All work is performed outdoors, regardless of conditions Be able to carry all equipment and supplies needed for an entire day mostly on-foot (cans of paint, stencil kit, inventory tags, tools) The following attributes are desired: Computer-savvy; proficiency with smartphone applications, Microsoft Office suite Orienteering; candidate must be able to use a map effectively and navigate themselves to work areas, as well as able to efficiently clear a map of tasks. Proven attention-to-detail; you must remember all relevant aspects of NESC code and apply to each facility you encounter. Communication Skills; concise communication via email and easily reachable by phone at all times during the workday. Self-organization and Self-motivation; the ideal candidate works well without regular supervision and maintains their own supply inventory Willingness to travel. Work will primarily be in the home area, but opportunities exist with Alden state-wide that would require full-time travel (travel expenses paid). Preference given to candidates open to travel. The following skills and experience are sought: Knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) Experience working in utility sector (telecommunications, power, water, sewer, natural gas) preferred. Preference given to candidates with telecommunications experience specifically. Experience performing inspections (construction, environmental, materials, utility) required. Experience performing NESC inspections on utility poles will move a candidate to the top of the list. GIS experience, office or field High school diploma required, Bachelors or Associates degree strongly preferred.
