Overview We are looking for a Marine Service Technician Helper/Trainee to assist with the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of boats and marine equipment. The work may include diesel engines, generators, electrical systems, plumbing, mechanical repairs, equipment installations, and general maintenance. We would prefer someone with experience in several of these areas, but we are also willing to train someone who has basic mechanical skills, is dependable, and is genuinely interested in learning the marine service industry. Experience with automotive, diesel, electrical, construction, or other mechanical work is also valuable. This is a hands-on position working at local marinas and boatyards. Applicants must be comfortable working in engine rooms and tight spaces, using hand and power tools, following instructions, and interacting professionally with customers. Duties Assist senior technicians with routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections of marine engines, electrical systems, and mechanical components. Support the interpretation of technical schematics, drawings, and wiring diagrams to aid troubleshooting efforts. Use hand tools, power tools, calipers, soldering equipment, welding gear, and other precision instruments to perform repairs and fabrication tasks. Participate in the maintenance of ship electrical systems Perform heavy lifting and assist with assembly or disassembly of mechanical or electrical assemblies as directed. Help diagnose issues using electrical diagnostics tools such as ohmmeters and multimeters; support troubleshooting of marine electrical systems. Maintain detailed records of work performed, parts used, and inspections completed to ensure compliance with operational standards. Qualifications Previous experience as a service technician or in a related mechanical or electrical role is preferred but not required; training will be provided. Basic understanding of schematics, technical drawings, and wiring diagrams. Experience with marine mechanics or ship electrical systems maintenance is a plus. Knowledge of mechanical systems repair including diesel engines, propulsion systems, sheet metal fabrication, welding, soldering, and use of hand tools. Strong mechanical aptitude combined with excellent customer service skills Willingness to perform heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks while maintaining safety standards.
