Marine Engine Mechanic / TechnicianPosition Summary McLaughlin's RV & Marine is hiring a Marine Engine Mechanic / Technician to diagnose, service, and repair boats, pontoons, trailers, and related marine systems. This position is a strong fit for an experienced automotive, powersports, small-engine, or equipment mechanic who understands engines, electrical systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, drivetrains, and customer-ready repair standards. Marine experience is preferred, but it is not the only path into this role. Many core systems on boats and pontoons are shared with automotive and equipment repair, including 12-volt electrical, batteries, starters, alternators, fuel delivery, ignition, steering, hydraulics, cooling, lubrication, diagnostics, and mechanical troubleshooting. The right candidate is mechanically skilled, organized, dependable, and willing to learn the marine-specific side of the business. Primary Responsibilities Diagnose, service, and repair outboard, inboard, and sterndrive engines. Perform oil changes, gear lube service, impeller service, winterization, spring start-up, and scheduled maintenance. Inspect and repair 12-volt electrical systems, batteries, switches, gauges, lighting, pumps, radios, and accessories. Troubleshoot fuel, ignition, cooling, steering, trim, hydraulic, and drivability concerns. Inspect trailers, lights, wiring, tires, lug nuts, bunks, winches, couplers, safety chains, and related components. Prepare boats and pontoons for customer delivery, including final inspection and operational testing. Install and test marine accessories and components. Document work performed clearly and accurately on repair orders. Communicate needed repairs, safety concerns, and parts requirements to the service team. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Support dealership standards for quality, appearance, safety, and customer satisfaction. Skills and Experience Automotive, marine, powersports, small-engine, diesel, RV, farm equipment, or mechanical repair experience preferred. Strong understanding of engines, electrical systems, fuel systems, cooling systems, lubrication, and mechanical diagnostics. Ability to use basic hand tools, power tools, diagnostic tools, meters, and service information. Ability to follow written repair procedures and manufacturer specifications. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a service team. Dependable attendance and good communication skills. Willingness to learn marine-specific systems, service procedures, and product standards. Shared Automotive and Marine Systems A strong automotive mechanic already understands many of the same systems used in marine repair.

Preferred Qualifications Prior marine service experience. Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda, Indmar, Ilmor, Volvo Penta, or MerCruiser experience. Trailer repair experience. Ability to back, launch, retrieve, and move boats and trailers safely. Forklift or equipment experience. Manufacturer training or mechanical certifications. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work around boats, trailers, and shop equipment. Ability to lift and move parts, tools, batteries, and service materials. Ability to work indoors and outdoors as needed. Ability to work safely around fuel, oil, batteries, engines, trailers, and moving equipment. Work Standards Repairs must be completed safely, correctly, and cleanly. Customer units must be treated with care. Repair orders must be documented clearly. Comebacks should be prevented through proper testing and inspection. Units must leave the shop cleaner, safer, and more reliable than when they arrived. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanic who takes pride in doing the job right. Automotive mechanics, equipment mechanics, powersports mechanics, and small-engine technicians are encouraged to apply. Marine experience is helpful, but mechanical ability, reliability, and a willingness to learn are the most important qualifications.
