Position Summary The Outboard MarineTechnician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, rigging, and servicing outboard-powered vessels and related marine systems. This role performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, warranty repairs, commissioning, and accessory installations while ensuring all work is completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and dealership quality standards. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical aptitude, marine system knowledge, and the ability to independently diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues. Duties & Responsibilities Maintain current Mercury, Yamaha, and other applicable manufacturer certifications. Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, inspections, tune-ups, fluid services, and system checks. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, fuel, steering, hydraulic, and performance-related issues. Complete repairs on outboard engines and supporting marine systems. Install, rig, and configure outboard engines and marine accessories. Perform warranty repairs in accordance with manufacturer policies and procedures. Utilize diagnostic software, service manuals, and technical documentation to identify and correct issues. Complete vessel commissioning, winterization, decommissioning, and spring commissioning services. Conduct testing and inspections to verify repairs and ensure proper operation. Document labor, diagnostics, repairs, parts usage, and recommendations accurately. Submit daily timesheets and service documentation to the Service Writer. Provide progress updates to the Service Coordinator and Service Writer throughout repair projects. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Assist customers with technical questions and basic operational guidance when appropriate. Follow dealership processes, quality standards, and safety procedures. Requirements for the Position Strong knowledge of outboard engines and marine systems. Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues. Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and efficiently. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Mechanical experience in marine, automotive, powersports, diesel, or related industries. Valid driver's license. Preferred Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, or Honda certification. Marine service experience. Experience with rigging and commissioning outboard-powered vessels. Knowledge of marine electrical, fuel, steering, and hydraulic systems. Familiarity with diagnostic software and electronic engine controls. Physical Requirements Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined spaces. Ability to lift and carry tools, parts, batteries, and equipment up to 50 pounds. Ability to work aboard vessels, on trailers, in service bays, and on docks. Exposure to weather conditions, fuels, lubricants, engine noise, and marine environments. Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. Drug & Alcohol Valhalla Yacht Sales is a drug-free workplace.
