Retro Boat Rentals ATX Assistant Boat Technician (Part-Time) About Retro Boat Rentals ATX Retro Boat Rentals ATX offers a one-of-a-kind experience cruising through downtown Austin on Lady Bird Lake in restored vintage fiberglass boats. Each vessel is brought back to its original jet-age style—complete with mid-century colors, fins, and chrome—while being upgraded with modern, eco-friendly electric motors. Our fleet delivers a clean, quiet, and easy-to-operate experience, making boating accessible for everyone—from first-time drivers to seasoned lake-goers. We take pride in sustainability and restoration—saving classic boats from landfills while eliminating emissions on the water. Today, our fleet includes 10 vintage boats and 2 Duffy electric boats, operating year-round (weather permitting), 7 days a week. Position Summary We're looking for an organized, hands-on, dependable Boat Technician to support the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and readiness of our fleet. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems on the fly, and being part of a small, tight-knit team in an outdoor environment. Key Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance and upkeep on electric rental boatsvintage electric boats (Torqeedo systems) Perform on-the-fly maintenance during operating hours as needed Track equipment, tools, and inventory across the fleet Assist with basic electrical troubleshootingelectrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repairs to Torqeedo, Duffy Electric Boat, and low-voltage (12-24v) DC accessory systems Assist with basic mechanical troubleshooting and repairs Prepare boats daily for rentals (cleaning, inspections, readiness checks) Perform on-the-fly maintenance during operating hours as needed Log maintenance updates and work orders using our internal system - Fleet Tool Kit Execute scheduled quality control and preventative maintenance routines Maintain cleanliness and presentation of all boats and dock areas Communicate repair status and needs with the Head Technician and General Manager Assist with on-water support, including retrieving or rescuing disabled boats Build working knowledge of FareHarbor for scheduling adjustments Maintain strong relationships with dock partners, including Austin Rowing Club Follow and uphold all safety procedures on the dock and on Lady Bird Lake Greet and communicate with patrons at the dock on an as-needed basis What We're Looking For Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and team-first mindset Mechanically inclined (experience with tools and repairs is required) Comfortable working outdoors in Texas conditions year-round Able to lift 50+ lbs and work safely around water Detail-oriented with pride in maintaining equipment appearance Strong communication and reliability—this role is critical to daily operations Schedule Expectations 20-30 hours per week Must be available at least one weekend day (Friday, Saturday or Sunday) Shifts typically range from 8-10 hours Some holiday availability required Flexible scheduling, with increased hours during peak season Basic Qualifications High school diploma or GED Valid driver's license 1+ year of mechanical and/or electrical experience Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to adapt to seasonal demand and a dynamic work environment Preferred (Not Required) Experience with marine systems or small engines Familiarity with electric propulsion systems (Torqeedo a major plus) Experience in marina, rental, or outdoor operations Why This Role Matters This isn't just a maintenance role—our boats are part of people's proposals, birthdays, anniversaries, and core memories. Interview Process One in-person interview will be conducted (~45 minutes) We're a small, family-run team—fit and attitude matter just as much as skill Compensation Starting at $23/hour Opportunity for increased compensation based on experience (mechanical, electrical, marine) Additional Notes This description outlines the primary responsibilities of the role but is not exhaustive.
