JOB DESCRIPTION

The Maritime Mechanic shall service and repair the craft and trailers, including light surface craft, Jet Skis, and various models of inboard and outboard motors. The Maritime Mechanic shall provide on-the-job training (OJT) instruction to entry level military and civilian mechanics new to various types of propulsion and ancillary equipment.

GENERAL TASK DESCRIPTION

• Perform repair and maintenance to include, but not limited to, fiberglass hull repair, patching, welding, metal forming, metal forming, sheet metal work, minor body repair, fender repair, engine maintenance, and repair for both inboard and outboard motors.
• Shall service, repair, test, and inspect trailers associated with transporting boats and watercraft.
• Provide day-to-day general support shop activities.
• Able to service and repair jet and propeller dive systems and gearing. Shall perform basic electrical repair and troubleshooting for ignition, lighting, panel controls, accessories, and DC output points.
• Service and repair boat trailers in accordance with manufacturer specifications. This includes performing a full range of services for repairing brakes, axles, bearing, lighting, and tire replacement
• Perform other projects and/or tasks as assigned and/or needed.
• Perform engine and drive system alignments.
• Remove/reinstall engines and drive systems from small boats.
• Troubleshoot engine problems and recommend appropriate actions.
• Maintain/overhaul basic hydraulic systems.
• Validate dimensions on drawings, determines appropriate materials, and best removal and installation route during a ship check.
• Assemble and repair components based on OEM installation drawings, material provided, and ship check notes.
• Use various hand tools, torque wrench, drill press, welding machine, air compressor, generator, chain hoist.
• Read and interpret OEM engineering drawings and instructions.
• Support electrical and mechanical disciplines.
• Identify tools and materials per task and request materials as needed.
• Assist in jobsite set-up, maintenance, restoration and securing.
• Knowledgeable and trained in safe work practices.
• Prepare and cleanup work area.
• Perform first pass QA of mechanical installs to include but not confined to hoses, wiring harnesses, sensors, mounting bolts, fluids, torques, etc.

EDUCATION

• Associate Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, training, or work/military experience.

MINIMUM SKILL REQUIREMENTS

• The Maritime Mechanic shall have a minimum of three (3) years' experience as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) certified mechanic with either Evinrude, Honda, Mercury, Suzuki or Yamaha commercial small outboard engines and ancillary equipment.
• Experience with troubleshooting and minor repairs of inboard marine diesel engines manufactured by Caterpillar and Cummings, as well as Hamilton and Kamewa waterjets, is desired but not required.
• Possess and maintain valid driver's license and meet the company's policy on ability to drive company vehicles.
• Hold Current Secret Clearance or able to obtain Secret Clearance.
• Travel may be up required to 10 % of time.
• Must have good written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills. Ability to follow directions is a must.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Carrying and Lifting. Ability to transport and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Employee is required to access remote areas of multi-level vessels.
• Walking and Climbing.

Ability to climb up to four flights of stairs and climb ladders. The selected applicant will be subject to a background check and drug testing.
