Lead Technician Job Summary:
The Marine Paint/Glass Technician is responsible for performing skilled work in the preparation, application, and finishing of marine coatings, as well as repairing and installing marine glass on yachts and other vessels. This role requires knowledge of marine surfaces, painting techniques, glass cutting and installation, and adherence to safety protocols in marine environments. The technician will work on various types of vessels and ensure high-quality workmanship while meeting customer specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
Surface Preparation:
Clean, sand, and prepare boat surfaces for painting, including fiberglass, metal, and wooden substrates. Apply primer, sealants, and other necessary preparatory coatings.
Marine Painting:
Apply marine-grade paints, varnishes, and finishes using spray, brush, and roller techniques. Ensure proper layering, curing, and finishing to maintain vessel integrity and aesthetics. Mix paint to match specific color requirements.
Glass Repair & Installation:
Measure, cut, and install marine glass for windows, hatches, and other boat enclosures. Repair or replace damaged glass and ensure watertight seals. Use appropriate tools and materials to safely handle glass, including adhesives, caulks, and sealants.
Safety & Compliance:
Safety is our top priority. The successful candidate must follow all safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a strong commitment to working safely at all times while operating tools and equipment, and while working in an active boat yard setting Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations related to paint and chemical disposal.
Equipment Maintenance:
Maintain and clean tools, equipment, and the work area to ensure operational readiness. Identify and report any maintenance issues with tools or equipment.
Collaboration:
Work closely with other technicians and shop personnel to coordinate projects and ensure efficient workflow. Provide input on best practices for achieving desired finishes and outcomes.
Customer Interaction:
Communicate with customers to discuss project requirements, timelines, and outcomes. Ensure customer satisfaction by delivering high-quality craftsmanship and addressing any concerns.
Qualifications:
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience in marine painting, coatings, or a related field. Experience with marine glass repair and installation is highly preferred.
Skills:
Proficient in surface preparation, priming, painting, and finishing techniques. Ability to measure, cut, and install marine glass. Knowledge of marine-grade paints, coatings, and safety standards. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work with precision.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and work in various positions (standing, crouching, etc.) for extended periods. Comfortable working in outdoor and sometimes harsh marine environments.
Certifications:
Any relevant certifications in painting, coatings, or glass installation are preferred but not required.
Working Conditions:
The role involves working in a marine environment, with exposure to weather elements, chemicals, and fumes. Protective gear (e.g., respirators, gloves, coveralls) must be worn as required. Work may involve extended hours, especially during peak seasons.
Compensation:
Competitive salary based on experience and skill level. Benefits package includes health insurance, paid time off, and opportunities for advancement.

$24.00 - $34.00 per hour
