Full Job Description Job Objective :
The Monitor Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms.Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders. Measures and interprets patient heart rhythm and documents on patient record per departmental standards. Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry. Answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers. Uses clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm. Orients and mentors new staff members. Serves as a resource for training and troubleshooting to both Central Telemetry and clinical areas. Troubleshoots monitors with nursing staff and contacts Clinical Engineering as appropriate. Gives report to oncoming shift. Prioritizes and organizes work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations. Replaces defective equipment and reports failures to Clinical Engineering. Adheres to confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees, and visitors. Develops a rapport and cooperative relationship with nursing and clinical staff and responds to questions/requests from healthcare providers. Performs job responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of AVH. Performs other duties as requested. Knowledge Knowledge of basic anatomy/physiology of the heart Skills Clear and concise communication skills Abilities Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clinicians, and other health team professionals Ability to accept responsibility for accuracy and response times to emergent and non-emergent requests.Core Competencies:

Education High school diploma or equivalent Successful completion of the Basic Dysrhythmia test with a minimum of 90% accuracy, identifying all lethal rhythms with 100% accuracy. Experience Minimum one year experience in an acute care setting preferred Previous Monitor Tech experience greater than one year preferred Required Licensure and/orCertifications:
Possess and maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health care Providers Maintain annual competences including successful completion of the annual monitor tech skills testPhysical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work often performed under demanding, emotional, and physical conditions. Accepts additional workload during times of unexpected circumstances (e.g., high activity, high census, and sudden emergencies). A detailed description of the physical requirements of this job is maintained in the Employee Health Department.Education and Experience:
