Job Description
Field Layout Technician DUTIES:
Completes surveying, site layout, and other assignments as directed by the VDC Manager and/or direct supervisor. Obtains daily work assignments from the VDC Manager before the end of the previous workday Communicates with onsite project superintendents to meet the specific needs for that project. Keeps up with all assigned and checked out equipment. It is the personal responsibility of the individual in possession of survey equipment to maintain the upkeep of each piece of equipment so that it remains functional on a day-to-day basis. When layout equipment is not in use, equipment shall be returned to the Warehouse Manager. Charging batteries and tablets before the next workday is the personal responsibility of the individual assigned to the associated piece of equipment. Submits a daily log of work activities through ProCore at the end of each workday. Daily reports will contain a detailed description of work activities with supporting photos. Communicates effectively with team leaders. While onsite, Layout Technicians will need to have a clear line of communication with Superintendents with regard to the detailed layout needs for that day and project, and how the layout will look. Obtain CAD layout documents from the VDC Manager/Field Engineer as needed. Layout Technicians will be provided CAD layout documents by email. It is their responsibility to upload these files to Magnet Field on their survey tablet. Once the file has been uploaded it should be checked for proper scaling, operational errors, or for file corruption. Operational failure of any type should be reported to the VDC Manager for corrective actionASAP. VDC
Manager/Direct Supervisor. Throughout the course of a project issues such as technical failure or destruction of control points can hinder the layout process and result in confusion regarding how to proceed. At any time when layout cannot be carried out with certainty of accuracy, it is the responsibility of the Layout Technicians to consult with the VDC Manager to resolve the issue. Carry out daily survey and layout assignments only when accuracy is ensured. Accuracy is of critical importance in the role of a Layout Technician. Layout should only be conducted when accuracy has been verified. It is the duty of the Layout Technician to use the best practices possible, and to stop layout at any time until they are confident in the accuracy of their layout. Inform the VDC Manager/Direct Supervisor of any shortcomings or issues related to your position. This can include but is not limited to issues such as training, leadership, or equipment limitations. Open and clear communication is the best way forward in resolving issues.KNOWLEDGE

Communication is key in this position. Set realistic daily and/or weekly goals. Send daily reports and pictures of work completed. Make sure layout is completed in a timely manner so as to not impede field install schedules. Verify batteries for all equipment are fully charged prior to field layout.
