Per Diem Road Crew Worker

Greene Township, Erie County is accepting applications for a Per Diem Road Crew Worker Employee. This position is a multi-skilled position.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Per Diem Road Crew Worker performs manual and semi-skilled labor on a call-in, as-needed basis to support the Greene Township Road Department. Work includes road maintenance, snow removal, storm cleanup, mowing, drainage work, and general township property upkeep. The position operates under the direction of the Road Foreman and/or the Board of Supervisors. This is not a regularly scheduled position; hours vary based on seasonal needs, weather events, and workload demands.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following list is not intended to be exhaustive. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support the operations of the Road Department.

• Perform road maintenance tasks including patching potholes, grading gravel roads, applying cold patch and hot mix, and assisting with road base repair
• Operate light and heavy equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, mowers, chippers, chain saws, and string trimmers
• Assist with stormwater and drainage maintenance including cleaning ditches, culverts, inlets, and catch basins
• Perform roadside mowing, brush cutting, tree trimming, and vegetation management
• Assist with sign installation, maintenance, and replacement
• Perform basic maintenance and pre-trip inspections on vehicles and equipment; report mechanical issues promptly
• Load and unload materials and supplies
• Flag traffic and set up work zone safety as needed
• Assist with special projects, community events, or emergency response operations as directed
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment at the township garage and job sites
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Road Foreman or Board of Supervisors Minimum Qualifications
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Valid Pennsylvania driver's license required
• Ability to operate heavy equipment and commercial vehicles, or willingness to learn
• Basic knowledge of road maintenance practices, hand tools, and power equipment
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to work independently and as part of a crew
• Must be available for call-ins during snow events, storms, and other emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
• Must comply with applicable CDL drug and alcohol testing requirements if operating commercial vehicles

• Frequently required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly; occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds
• Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice
• Requires manual dexterity to operate tools, equipment, and controls
• Must have sufficient vision and hearing to safely operate equipment and work near traffic
• Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions
• Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and exhaust from equipment operations
• Exposure to hazards associated with working near traffic, heavy equipment, and construction zones
• Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as appropriate, including steel-toed boots, hard hat, safety vest, gloves, hearing protection, and eye protection
• Irregular and unpredictable schedule; must be available on short notice for emergency call-ins Employment Terms
• This is a per diem, non-benefited position — no guarantee of hours, benefits, or continued employment
• Compensation is at an hourly rate established by the Board of Supervisors
• Per diem employees are not eligible for health insurance, retirement, paid leave, or other benefits unless otherwise required by law
• Employment is at-will and may be terminated at any time by either party
