About the Opportunity This is an open position with Ohio Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. This is a full-time, on-site position located in Ravenna, OH. Position Summary This position is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification and is subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening. Journey Line Workers are responsible for building and maintaining electric power systems and for restoring electric service to commercial, industrial, agricultural and residential customers. They are expected to test, frame and set poles; climb poles, work in confined spaces; splice and terminate cables. Our Lineman will have had successfully completed a federal or state sanctioned apprenticeship (with approved supporting documentation) and/or IBEW sponsored line worker apprenticeship. Work is predominantly outdoors and in all weather conditions. Linemen must be able to drive safely, work extended hours; travel/transfer to new headquarter upon request at any time (General Construction Positions), and wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment. Duties Under directive or general directive supervision, engages in any of the work of construction, maintenance and repair of transmission lines which may be energized; performs work on sub-transmission lines, which may be energized, during emergency conditions or to expedite transmission line work; carries through assignments, at times, with the assistance of other employees; performs duties such as: Installing and removing poles, towers, structures and conductors; clamping main conductors and ground wires on suspension and dead end towers during construction and maintenance; installing and changing insulator assemblies; Stringing, splicing, sagging, insulating and tying in conductors; Installing and replacing steel members, crossarms and associated devices; framing poles; Working on energized trans­mission lines; and simple distribution work to complete the assigned job or during emergency situations; Performing various operations such as the occasional switching of transmission circuits; performing switching and tagging operations in unattended substations, as directed; Making cutovers from old poles and equipment to new or temporary installations of a similar nature; Installing safety equipment such as rubber blankets and protectors on conductors and equipment; maintaining high standards of safety; Performing, when assigned, transmission line patrolling duties such as: patrolling transmission lines on foot or by vehicle; inspecting poles and towers; making climbing inspections to determine con­dition of equipment; replacing equipment such as insulators, cross arms and steel members; retying conductors; making repairs and adjustments to transmission line equipment; and requesting lines to be taken out of service; grounding same; releasing such lines to be put back into service; Preparing required written and oral reports; Directing and training employees assigned to the work; Performing the duties of Transmission Lineworker B; and Performing other work, as assigned Qualifications Must meet the Company's requirements as to General Qualifications; must have all the qualifications of Transmission Lineworker B; and in addition: Must have at least two years experience as Transmission Lineworker B, or the equivalent; Must have demonstrated aptitude for and ability in the safe perfor­mance of the duties of Transmission Lineworker B; Must have a practical knowledge of the principles and operation of the Company's transmission systems in the area to which assigned including the protective devices such as oil circuit breakers, lightning arresters, switching and grounding equipment, transformers, capacitors, regulators and similar devices and equipment; Must have a thorough knowledge of the Company ' s construction and main­tenance methods and practices; Must have the ability to learn the use of "hot line" tools; Must be thoroughly familiar with the proper application of protective equipment and devices and the practices and procedures for clearing and grounding of lines and equipment for the protection of personnel and equipment; Must have the ability to receive and pass on orders and instructions in a manner that will maintain harmony and safety, and obtain coopera­tion and satisfactory work results from men assigned to the work; and Must be able to work from moderately complex drawings.
