Job Description

Scott Hill Retirement Community is an affordable housing community for seniors located in Clifton Forge, VA. We are currently seeking a motivated & dependable Maintenance Assistant to support daily operations and help maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for our resident. This position works closely with the Maintenance Supervisor to assist with the overall upkeep of the property, including building systems, grounds, and individual apartment units. Key Responsibilities Assist with the maintenance and operation of building systems, including heating, hot water, and air conditioning Perform general maintenance repairs such as basic carpentry, minor plumbing and electrical work, appliance repairs, lock repairs, and window replacement Support apartment turnover processes, including painting, repairs, and preparing units for new residents Respond to maintenance requests and help address emergency situations such as water leaks, flooding, or sewer backups, including cleanup and restoration Conduct routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and common areas to ensure cleanliness and proper upkeep Report maintenance issues and deficiencies to the Maintenance Supervisor with clear documentation and recommended solutions Assist with groundskeeping, including snow removal, sanding, and clearing walkways as needed Help move furniture, equipment, and supplies as required Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate protective equipment Qualifications and Skills Basic knowledge of general maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems Strong probelm-solving skills and ability to work independently Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Good communication and customer service skills when interacting with residents and team members Reliable, team-oriented, and detailed-focused Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, push, and perform physical labor as needed Ability to respond to emergency situations, including outside of regular working conditions when necessary Additional Requirements Must follow uniform and safety requirements, including wearing steel-toes shoes and appropriate protective gear Scott Hill is an EOE (Equal Opportunity Employer) and drug-free workplace.
