Maintenance Engineer- Job Description
- This role focuses on maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems across multiple commercial buildings in a defined local area.
You will work primarily with large commercial equipment and rooftop HVAC units, ensuring reliable operation and a comfortable, safe environment for building occupants. The position offers opportunities to specialize either as a rooftop HVAC technician or as a building engineer supporting downtown office properties.
- Responsibilities
- + Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on large commercial mechanical systems, including rooftop HVAC units, chillers, and related equipment.
+ Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues within commercial buildings to maintain safe and efficient operations. + Support multiple commercial buildings within a small geographic area, responding promptly to maintenance requests and system alarms. + Conduct routine inspections of HVAC systems, including air handlers, condensers, boilers where applicable, and associated controls. + Troubleshoot and resolve issues with commercial HVAC units, including rooftop systems, to minimize downtime and maintain occupant comfort. + Perform general facilities maintenance tasks in downtown office buildings and other assigned properties. + Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used, following established procedures and standards. + Collaborate with other technicians and building engineers to coordinate work across multiple sites and ensure consistent service quality. + Operate company vehicles responsibly when assigned, traveling between designated locations to perform maintenance and repairs. + Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while working in office and corporate environments. + Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Essential Skills
- + At least 1 year of hands-on maintenance experience with commercial HVAC units as a building engineer, with a strong preference for 3 or more years of experience.
+ Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing commercial mechanical systems, including rooftop HVAC units. + Practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in commercial facilities. + Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot issues with HVAC systems and related equipment. + Experience working in commercial buildings, including office environments. + Strong attention to safety procedures when working with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. + Ability to work independently across multiple building locations within a local area. + Professional appearance suitable for a corporate and office setting.
- Additional Skills & Qualifications
- + Chiller experience is highly preferred.
+ Boiler experience is highly preferred. + Previous facilities maintenance experience in clean, climate-controlled commercial environments. + Experience as a rooftop HVAC technician or building engineer supporting multiple properties. + Comfort using basic tools, equipment, and documentation systems required for facilities maintenance. + Valid driver's license and ability to operate a company vehicle when assigned.

Some positions are based at specific locations such as Ward Parkway, East Park, and South Park, while others support downtown properties, all within the Kansas City metropolitan area. Select technician roles include access to a company truck for travel between sites. The setting is professional, and employees are expected to maintain a neat, clean-cut appearance consistent with working in office and corporate facilities.
