Job Summary:

The Maintenance-I position is responsible for the upkeep and cleanliness of school buildings and surrounding grounds. The Maintenance I should be a jack-of-all trades, ready for minor emergencies that may come up. This position must work closely with Building Principal on a daily basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Other duties may be assigned. 1. General safety, health, and comfort of the building's occupants. 2. Cleanliness and orderliness of the building, site, furniture, fixtures, and equipment. 3. Minor repairs such as tightening screws, replacing glass, light bulbs, and faucet washers, fixing furniture, painting, etc. 4. Grounds work to include, but not be limited to, removing snow, sanding, salting, mowing, trimming, and landscaping. 5. Dusting, sweeping, scrubbing, washing windows, waxing, and vacuuming. 6. Building security. 7. Moving and arranging furniture, fixtures, and equipment. 8. Receiving, delivering, and storing shipments of materials. 9. At the beginning of each shift, the work to be done will be directed by Physical Plant Supervisor in coordination with the Building Principal. 10. Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:

Reports to, receives daily work assignments, and is evaluated by Physical Plant Supervisor, in conjunction with Building Principals.

None.

Qualification Requirements:

Education and Experience:

High school degree, or equivalent, plus 1 to 2 years of relevant experience preferred, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired. 2.

Language Skills:

Ability to read a limited number of two

• and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.

Ability to print and speak simple sentences. 3.

Mathematical Skills:

Good basic mathematical skills including ability to perform operations using units of weight measurement, volume and distance. 4.

Reasoning Ability/Mental Requirements:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations in a safe, efficient manner. Must be able to multi-task to meet objectives on time, on budget. 5.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills:

Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals, including students, faculty, administrators, parents, and representatives of outside organizations and staff. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and outside agencies. Ability to effectively resolve conflicts. 6.
