Specialized knowledge of highway principles, practices, methods, standards, and techniques relative to maintenance and repair of highway bridges, roads, heavy and general equipment, traffic markings etc. Considerable knowledge and experience in all phases of maintenance development. Working knowledge of OSHA, safety precautions, and regulations, compliance requirements as they relate to maintenance of bridge, traffic markings, highways, and equipment. Supervisory experience of multiple employees, minimum of one (1) year. Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment. Considerable knowledge and experience in transportation operations. General knowledge of welding, repairing, and general maintenance of equipment. Ability to properly schedule employee hours and coordinate trucks and materials needed during winter operations. Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow. Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets. A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered. The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. A Day in theLife:
The essential functions of this role are as follows: Comply with Indiana Department of Transport (INDOT)'s Safety Policy and Procedures. Assign work to units ensuring that the needed materials and equipment are available. Ensure the most effective utilization of personnel, time, and equipment for each task. Provide supervision to a unit or group of employees while explaining the purpose of the job and all the programs that affect the work. Oversee operation and maintenance ensuring that supervised employees accomplish the work orders by a scheduled finish date with minimal interruptions to the various operations. Support the Winter operations duties which include snow and ice removal. You will also help with the maintenance and troubleshooting of the District brine machines and application equipment. Assist with implementation/improvement of operational programs, procedures, and project planning. Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development. Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
