POSITION SUMMARY
Our Waco, TX facility manufactures aluminum beverage cans commonly used for soft drinks, beers, energy drinks, teas and non-carbonated beverages. Using state of the art can-making technology, this high speed environment provides rewarding manufacturing opportunities. The Maintenance Planner is responsible for improving the wrench time and efficiency of the maintenance workforce in the Aluminum Beverage Can Manufacturing Plant. This role achieves this by ensuring that all planned maintenance work (preventative, predictive, and corrective) is properly scoped, prioritized, scheduled, and ready for execution, with all necessary materials, permits, and resources secured in advance. This position is critical for maximizing equipment reliability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
WORK
PLANNING AND PREPARATION
Work Order Management:
Review incoming maintenance work requests, prioritizing them based on established criteria (safety, criticality, production impact), and converting them into detailed, executable work orders.
Job Scoping:
Conduct field walk-downs to accurately determine the scope of work, including labor hours required by craft, necessary tools and equipment, and potential safety risks (LOTO, confined space, etc.).
Material Management:
Identify and reserve all required spare parts and materials from inventory. Initiate purchase requests for non-stock items and track delivery to ensure materials are available prior to the planned start date.
Documentation:
Create and maintain standardized, detailed job plans (step-by-step procedures) for repetitive and critical maintenance tasks to ensure consistent execution.
SCHEDULING AND COORDINATION
Scheduling:
Develop the weekly and daily maintenance schedule, coordinating with Production Supervisors to minimize downtime and maximize resource utilization. Publish and communicate schedules to all stakeholders.
Resource Allocation:
Coordinate the availability of internal maintenance technicians (mechanical, electrical, tooling) and external contractors, ensuring the correct skill sets are assigned to the planned jobs.
Permits and Safety:
Ensure all necessary permits (e.g., hot work, confined space) and safety documentation are prepared, reviewed, and approved before scheduling work execution.
Backlog Management:
Manage and continuously review the maintenance work backlog, ensuring jobs are appropriately classified, prioritized, and scheduled in a timely manner.
SYSTEM MANAGEMENT AND ANALYSIS CMMS
Proficiency:
Serve as a key user of the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, Oracle). Ensure data integrity by updating equipment records, bill of materials (BOMs), and job plan histories.
Metrics and Reporting:
Track and report key maintenance performance indicators (KPIs) such as schedule compliance, planned maintenance percentage, wrench time, and backlog status to drive continuous improvement.
PM Optimization:
Review the effectiveness of existing Preventative Maintenance (PM) routes, recommending adjustments or additions based on failure analysis and maintenance history.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Required - High School Diploma or GED required. An Associate's degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field is strongly preferred. Required - Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience is mandatory, allowing for practical job planning. Required - 2+ years of dedicated experience in a Maintenance Planning or Scheduling role is required, preferably in a high-speed, continuous manufacturing environment (can, packaging, automotive, etc.).
GENERAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
CMMS Expertise:
Demonstrated proficiency in using a major CMMS platform for work order and inventory management.
Technical Reading:
Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics, P&IDs, and equipment manuals.
Organization and Time Management:
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage a large backlog and coordinate complex schedules under pressure.
Communication:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for creating clear job plans and coordinating effectively with production and stores teams.
Problem-Solving:
Proven ability to apply structured analysis to ensure jobs are fully prepared and executed efficiently. Must be able to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime, as required. Ability to work with employees from many different cultures and backgrounds

Continuous use of vision, hearing and speech. Frequent sitting, standing, walking and occasional bending. Will lift, carry, pull / push, and reach for supplies and on occasion lifting (up to 50 lbs.) while performing various aspects of the job. Will need to climb stairs, climb ladders, lift and move objects, requires manual dexterity and repetitive use of keyboard/computer devices/power tools/machining equipment; Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes.
HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm; Present to fulfill job duties & meet operational demands/support; Schedule may vary depending on plant operational needs thus flexibility is required which may include long days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime; Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
