Full Job Description General Description:
The Maintenance Person will support The Martin De Porres School for Exceptional Children by adhering to our mission (to educate children experiencing emotional and behavioral problems), our vision (through education, every child entrusted to our care will have the opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential), and our core values of respect, integrity, leadership, and service. The Maintenance Person is responsible for maintaining the agency's buildings and ensuring sanitary conditions throughout all facilities. This role includes working cooperatively with local service providers to ensure the school building operates safely, reliably, and efficiently. The demands of this position may extend beyond normal school hours due to weather conditions, emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances. While primarily assigned to the Residential Program and supervised by the Program Director, the Maintenance Staff member will also be subject to direction and supervision by the Director of Operations when assigned to school-based duties, special projects, or other agency-wide operational needs.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs maintenance, repair, and facility support functions for the Residential Program. Provides maintenance support to the School facility as directed by the Director of Operations . Responds to agency-wide maintenance needs, emergencies, and special projects across both School and Residential settings. Maintains flexibility in work assignments to support operational efficiency across all agency facilities . Follows direction from the Director of Operations when deployed outside of the Residential Program . Ability to work during inclement weather conditions to ensure the safe entry and exit to buildings. Maintain, adjust and make minor repairs of building hardware, furniture, shelving and equipment. Replaces broken window and door glass. Ensuring that necessary general cleanup is provided and cleanliness maintained Ability to be on call for building emergencies Ensure compliance with any Fire safety regulations pertaining to agency buildings Assist in maintaining fire alarm systems and extinguishers Ensure the proper maintenance and sanitary condition of all outside areas Comply with all procedures related to fire, building, health, safety issues Responsible for or assists with construction projects in agency buildings Ability to make buildings safe and accessible to staff before their established arrival time, including any necessary snow removal, and then to secure the agency complex at the end of the work day.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION
High School or Vocational High School Diploma Certification from Vocational Training Program preferred Must have valid driver's license and ability to travel to multiple locations
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 1 year trade experience in a school setting or similar building Experience with plumbing, woodwork, masonry or other repairs required
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Proven ability to perform general building maintenance and upkeep Ability to support and maintain building security systems and practices Ability to collaborate effectively with local service providers and caretakers Working knowledge of internal fire alarm systems and their maintenance Ability to complete routine repairs for buildings and appliances Flexibility to work beyond standard school hours as needed Ability to respond effectively to building-related and external emergencies Knowledge of and adherence to building evacuation procedures ================================================================ This position description contains the major responsibilities required to perform this job.
