Job Description

The Baillie Group is a cohesive, unified group of hardwood producers working cooperatively together with each retaining their distinctive and valued cultural identities. With multiple facilities across North America, we are committed to quality, continuous improvement, and long-term partnerships. Our Smyrna, NY sawmill is currently seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to support safe, efficient, and reliable operations.
Position Overview:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems within the sawmill. This role requires a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems and components. Apply knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles to diagnose equipment malfunctions and restore equipment to proper operation. Provide skilled maintenance support across all manufacturing areas, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum efficiency. Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of equipment, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs), drives, gauges, power supplies, and test equipment. Assist in the installation, modification, and upgrade of machinery and support systems. Document maintenance activities and communicate effectively with operations staff to ensure issues are resolved in a timely manner. Follow all company safety protocols and maintain a safe, organized work environment. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the needs of the sawmill.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; a 2-year degree/certificate in electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic fields preferred. Previous experience in electrical, welding, or mechanical work strongly preferred. Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, industrial/manufacturing environment. Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues. Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team, including strong communication with operators and supervisors. Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. and working in varying environmental conditions. Willing to train on 1st shift, but this will be a 2nd shift role
