Job Description

What You'll Do We're seeking a Managing Director to join our Principal Asset Management Strategy team. In this role, you'll be responsible for collaborating with the Growth Group and Operating Committee of Principal Asset Management (PrinAM) to develop the long-term strategic plan, drive business development initiatives for global businesses, review existing/explore new product capabilities, and consult on strategic initiatives and operational efficiencies. This includes keeping the business ahead of a rapidly changing external environment and continuing to challenge and assess the organization and business area alignment. In addition, incumbent will represent PrinAM in preparing for, and delivering strategic discussions with key internal and external stakeholders, act as a contributing member to various PrinAM and Corporate working groups/committees, and participate in enterprise-level strategic initiatives. This role will also own and drive specific elements of shaping and advancing key strategic priorities in partnership with business leaders. This role is critical to aligning multiple owners and functions to drive execution/change and achieve business results for PrinAM and, in conjunction with other business units within Principal, drive results on cross business unit initiatives. The role ensures alignment, clarity, and momentum as business leaders translate strategy into execution. You'll have the opportunity to: Define and drive key elements of critical global strategic initiatives that impact business results. Assist with strategic executive communication prep and delivery, provide strategic updates to key stakeholders, facilitate strategy development and execution sessions, assist in planning and execution of strategic communication events. Partner with senior leadership to shape and advance PrinAM business strategy efforts. Consult with senior management and key stakeholders to identify and analyze business gaps and opportunities and to integrate strategic planning efforts into business plans. Advise and consult with senior management and key stakeholders regarding an array of issues surrounding strategic development, planning and benchmarking. Perform research and analysis on strategic issues, including competitive analysis and industry/client perspectives, anchored in an outside-in perspective on clients, markets, and competitors, to inform business prioritization, trade-offs, and strategic decision-making. Represent PrinAM in preparing for and delivering strategic discussions with key internal and external stakeholders and drive the execution and implementation of joint business development initiatives. This includes several Executive Management Group (EMG) sessions throughout the year, the PFG Board of Directors quarterly meetings and annual strategy retreat, and it also includes representing PrinAM on a variety of Corporate working groups. Lead, develop and motivate staff in an environment that embraces change, fosters focus, teamwork, creativity, timeliness and results that are measured and recognized. Perform other job-related duties as required (i.e. proactively build relationships with global external advisors and consultants as needed to create and implement strategy for the business). Who You Are Bachelor's degree or equivalent with 10+ years of related work experience in investment management, general management consulting, and/or investment banking Extensive knowledge of corporate finance and business strategy, strategic planning processes & tools, including implementation of strategic initiative required In-depth understanding of products, services and operations within financial services industry, financial modeling, or US Wealth experience a plus Strategic & critical thinking - Project management; ability to drive and execute upon plan Experience working with senior management and strong influence skills required Ability to work in complex (matrix, affiliate, and global) and ambiguous environment - Interpersonal, communication, presentation/ facilitation skills Problem solving and analytical skills Salary Range Information Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly) $179000 - $243000 / year Time Off Program Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided. Pension Eligible No Location & Work Environment Role is based out of our corporate headquarters in Des Moines, IA and offers a hybrid work arrangement, blending at least three in‑office days during a typical workweek.
