Job Description

Thermaflex, a subsidiary of Smiths Group, and a leading manufacturer of products for the HVAC markets, is recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer based at our Abbeville, South Carolina location. We are looking for a motivated Manufacturing Engineer who thrives on solving problems and improving how products are built. In this role, you will directly support the Divisional Engineer and work hands‑on with cross‑functional teams to refine manufacturing processes, support innovation, and help deliver reliable HVAC solutions to our customers.
Job Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting daily production operations, optimizing manufacturing processes, and serving as a key liaison between production operators, maintenance teams, and engineering. This role ensures efficient, safe, and cost-effective manufacturing performance, with a strong emphasis on automated equipment support, continuous improvement, and ERP/BOM management.
Essential Functions:
Provide daily engineering support to manufacturing operations, troubleshooting issues and ensuring minimal downtime. Act as the primary interface between production operators and maintenance teams, particularly for automated and semi-automated equipment. Support and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the ERP system, including updates, corrections, and process-driven changes. Coordinate and manage procurement of manufacturing equipment parts to ensure continuity of operations and minimize production interruptions. Analyze existing manufacturing processes and workflows; conduct experiments and trials to recommend and implement improvements. Lead and manage continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, quality, and throughput. Participate in and promote all safety initiatives; ensure safe practices are embedded in all shop floor activities. Provide day-to-day project leadership, ensuring assigned initiatives are completed on time and within scope. Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process specifications. Support cost analysis and process costing activities to improve financial performance. Train production personnel on new processes, equipment, and procedures to ensure successful implementation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including quality, supply chain, and product engineering. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Participate in root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes for quality or production issues.
Secondary Duties:
Participates in HSE activities as required. Must be able to travel as needed.
Qualifications:
Education Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or related technical discipline Experience 3 - 5 years in a manufacturing environment preferred Skills Ability to manage multi-task effectively Results oriented Effective communication skills Ability to analyze data and make decisions from results Mechanical aptitude SolidWorks experience a plus
