Job Description

SUMMARY Responsible for building, repairing and/or replacement of tooling for various machines and equipment needed to perform production operations, so as to produce a quality product.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Keeping production going with as little down time as possible by following procedures outlined below: Building new dies, repairing and adjusting old dies, making new designs, duplicating parts to match perfectly, forming dies and roll forms, and problem solving any questions relating to dies and their components. Helps in maintaining equipment so that it runs safely and efficiently to prevent trouble before it happens, i.e., sharpening, polishing, replacing worn parts, etc. After changing or making a new die, make test samples of products, test and evaluate the quality. Works with outside sources and/or Corporate Tooling to make and perfect dies to certain specifications when unable to make in-house. Provides blueprints, gives recommendations and/or suggestions. Checks scheduling to watch for what part is to be ran next and seeing if anything is needed prior to start up. Maintains inventory of supplies and orders parts or tools as needed. Checks and follows-up on ordered dies to see that they are to be delivered on time. Check them when they arrive, run new samples, etc. Occasionally travel to customers or other American Trim to look at their products and operations. Rotate on-call duty by carrying pager, cell phone, etc., as scheduled by the supervisor. Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times. Other job duties as assigned by supervisor.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Statistical Process Control, Linear Measuring and Problem Solving Training. Must be able to get certified in Press Safety.
TYPICAL MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT INVOLVED
Punch presses, benders, feeders, roll forms, derailers, welders, powder coater, plater, high lifts, transfers, hoist, conveyors, etc.
TOOLS AND GAGES
Grinders, drill presses, lathes, mills, all mechanical tools, all gages & meters and almost all precision measuring instruments (calibers, etc.).
TYPICAL PRODUCTS INVOLVED
Grease, oils, chemicals, tapping lubricants, degreasers, etc.
METHOD OF JOB ASSIGNMENT
Somewhat self-assigned, but also verbal and written.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to complete Statistical Process Control Charts (SPC), do Linear Measuring and Problem Solving. Attention to detail, advanced math, blueprint reading and precision work required. Mandatory 5 to 7 years of prior experience as a Tool and Die A or B or tool and die experience at another plant.
