Position Summary The Extraction Technician is responsible for operating closed-loop hydrocarbon extraction systems and solventless water extraction processes to produce high-quality concentrates. This role includes biomass preparation, extraction operations, solvent recovery, solventless hash production, post-processing, equipment maintenance, and maintaining strict safety and compliance standards. Key ResponsibilitiesClosed-Loop Extraction Operations Operate closed-loop hydrocarbon extraction systems using butane/propane blends. Load biomass into extraction columns and perform hydrocarbon extraction cycles. Monitor and control temperature, pressure, and solvent flow to ensure optimal extraction efficiency. Perform solvent recovery and system depressurization following SOPs. Inspect systems for leaks, pressure irregularities, and equipment malfunctions . Solventless (Water) Extraction Perform ice water extraction to produce bubble hash. Prepare and agitate plant material using wash vessels, ice, and filtration bags . Separate and collect different micron grades of hash . Properly dry hash using freeze dryers or traditional drying methods . Maintain cleanliness and temperature control during solventless processing. Post-Processing & Refinement Transfer crude extracts to vacuum ovens for purging residual solvents . Assist with winterization, filtration, and solvent removal processes . Monitor extraction products during curing, nucleation, and stabilization . Operate Rosin Presses Process extracts into finished forms such as: Shatter Wax/badder Crumble Live resin Rosin/hash derivatives Prepare extracts for packaging or further refinement. Material Preparation Break down, grind, or prepare biomass prior to extraction. Accurately weigh and record material inputs and outputs . Track yields, batch numbers, and production metrics . Equipment Maintenance & Cleaning Clean and sanitize extraction equipment, vessels, and tools. Inspect gaskets, clamps, valves, pumps, and recovery systems .Perform routine maintenance on:
Closed-loop extraction systems Vacuum ovens Solvent tanks Wash vessels Filtration systems Report and troubleshoot mechanical issues. Safety & Compliance Follow OSHA, fire safety, and hazardous material protocols . Maintain compliance with state cannabis regulations and facility SOPs . Ensure proper solvent storage, ventilation, and grounding procedures . Use proper PPE and maintain cleanroom standards . Documentation & Quality Control Maintain detailed production logs and batch records .Record:
Biomass weights Solvent usage Extraction parameters Final yields Assist with sampling for potency, residual solvent, and contaminant testing . Maintain consistent product quality and process reproducibility. Skills & Qualifications Technical Skills Experience with closed-loop hydrocarbon extraction systems . Knowledge of solventless hash production (ice water extraction) . Familiarity with vacuum ovens, freeze dryers, and solvent recovery systems . Understanding of pressure systems and solvent safety . Operational Skills Strong attention to detail and safety awareness. Ability to follow strict SOPs and lab protocols . Basic math for yield tracking and batch calculations. Ability to work in fast-paced production environments. Equipment Commonly Used Closed-loop hydrocarbon extraction systems Vacuum ovens Solvent recovery pumps Chillers and heaters Freeze dryers Ice water wash vessels Filtration bags and sieves Stainless steel extraction columns Rosin Press Basic Qualifications Must be 21 years or older Ability to work as part of a team to meet production schedules. Regular and punctual attendance is required. 1-2 years in cannabis Preferred Qualifications 1-3+ years experience operating closed-loop hydrocarbon extraction systems (butane/propane). Hands-on experience with solventless extraction methods, including ice water hash production and freeze-drying. Experience with post-processing techniques such as vacuum oven purging, winterization, filtration, and crystallization. Familiarity with closed-loop extraction equipment maintenance, including replacing gaskets, seals, clamps, and troubleshooting pressure or flow issues. Experience operating vacuum ovens, solvent recovery pumps, chillers, and freeze dryers. Understanding of hydrocarbon solvent safety and C1D1 extraction environments. Experience maintaining batch records, yield tracking, and production logs. Ability to identify and troubleshoot extraction system issues such as clogs, pressure irregularities, or solvent recovery inefficiencies. Experience producing multiple concentrate types including live resin, shatter, badder, crumble, and hash products. Strong understanding of extraction room safety protocols and hazardous material handling. Previous experience in cannabis manufacturing or extraction labs preferred. Managerial Responsibility This position has no managerial functions Travel Requirements No travel is expected for this position Working Environment This job operates in a GMP manufacturing plant setting. While working in this environment employees will be required to wear appropriate protective gowning (provided uniform scrubs) and equipment. While working in this environment, employees are required to operate, maintain, and clean large scale packaging equipment including automated packaging equipment and ancillary equipment. While working in this environment, employees will be exposed to cannabis, cannabis concentrates, cannabis products, and terpenes and may also be exposed to the following: extreme temperatures (as low as•80 Fahrenheit)dust and fine particulate, loud and/sustained noise, pinching and/or crushing hazards food allergens, high pressure systems, including inert and volatile gases. In addition to the conditions above, the working environment also includes basic professional office equipment such as desks, mobile workstations, computers, phones and other office equipment. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job employees will be required to walk, stand for sustained periods, and lift and carry at least 50 pounds. Employees will be required to use hands, fingers and arms to grasp, pull, twist, reach, and push as needed to operate basic tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, torque wrenches, etc. Employees must be able to push, pull, and stop carts and trolleys. Employees must be able to see, hear, and communicate basic operational and safety instructions. Employees may be required to lay on the floor or climb stairs. Employees may be required to wear hearing, eye, respiratory, hot/cold, or fall protection. This position is regularly exposed to raw cannabis flower and other cannabis derived materials and products.
