Job Description

Company Overview:
Founded in 2001, Devil's Canyon Brewing Company is an award-winning, family-owned eventhouse and brewery located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area. We host both private and public events in our Tasting Room, Barrel Room, and Beer Garden, and produce and distribute sustainably handcrafted beverages centered on premium ingredients.
Position Overview:
Production Cellar Assistant (Tier-1) manages cellar and packaging responsibilities at Devil's Canyon Brewing Company and reports to the Head Brewer. The position facilitates beverage production while maintaining a secure, sanitary, world-class beverage manufacturing facility and operating and maintaining all pertinent equipment from two brew houses (1 - 40bbl and 1-10bbl) to multiple packaging lines (canning and bottling).
Fermentation, Cellar and Packaging Operations:
Produce and package beverages per recipes for both Devil's Canyon and Contract breweries. Operate and Maintain cellar systems to include tank management and packaging lines. Troubleshoot and problem solve. Keep concise and accurate logs/notes, including all adjustments or actions performed. Clean tanks, kegs, equipment, and facility daily. Yeast Propagation and Management. Stocking and Receiving goods and supplies. Assist in Barrel Aging Program Sensory Analysis Daily Gravity and VDK Sampling Product filtration via plate and frame, DE/Velo, Crossflow, etc.,
Continual Process Improvement:
Continually strive to improve processes and increase efficiency and quality in fermentation, filtration, and packaging. Review, implement, follow and create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) regularly to ensure documentation, accuracy, and suggest edits. Ensure all quality checks are performed each shift.
General Duties:
Follow safety protocols and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Assist in creation and adherence of department budget and production/packaging cost estimates. Maintain an organized and sanitary production environment. Load and unload inbound/outbound trucks. Certified forklift operator. Maintain raw material, chemical and packaging inventories and place orders when necessary. Communicate with Devil's Canyon Management and contract accounts to ensure timely arrival of materials for scheduled packaging days. Ensure proper inventory rotation. Assist in brewing as needed. Additional Requirements:
Passionate and responsible about beer. Assist in the planning and execution of daily and weekly tasks. Experienced operator of canning, bottling, and labeling lines, including maintenance and troubleshooting. Experience with pumps, glycol systems, boilers, basic electrical, basic plumbing and facilities maintenance huge plus. Experience with pasteurization systems huge plus. Dedication to quality and efficiency with an excellent attention to detail. Monitor several batches simultaneously and maintain strict quality metrics. 3+ years of experience operating commercial brewing and packaging systems ranging in size with both manual and automated brewing experience. Ideally, a formal brewing qualification or degree (Siebel, Weihenstephan, ABG, Davis, OSU, IBD diploma, etc.., or equivalent) Completed a Bachelor's degree in food production, chemistry, biology, business, engineering or business. BJCP, Cicerone certifications a plus. Knowledge of OSHA and safety standards Knowledge of government regulatory programs and
