Job Description
Position Summary The Scrap Room Technician is responsible for the unloading, receiving, and processing (SAP Goods Receipt) of all inbound aluminum coils. They are responsible to deliver the coils to the line for consumption as well as removal of all dunnage and packaging materials following processing. This person is also responsible for handling all of the processing of scrap materials in the scrap room. This includes, but is not limited to, weighing, processing (SAP BOL creation), and loading scrap onto trucks for outbound shipment. Essential Functions/Key Deliverables Inspect the technical condition of the Forklift and other material handling equipment before starting work to determine the need for repairs to safely operate machinery. Record pre-use checks in the provided system or the vehicle logbook as required. Operation of large industrial lift truck (approx. 80,000lbs capacity). Report any faults and/or breakdowns of the equipment to Production Supervisor. Unload, receive, and prepare all inbound coils for processing. Deliver coils to the point of use i.e. coil handling equipment located in production area. Dispose of all packaging materials and dunnage in a timely and efficient manner. Remove all recyclable materials from production floor each shift and process through proper waste stream. Weigh, process, and load scrap bales onto trucks in preparation for shipment. Preventative Maintenance of equipment i.e. check oil level in balers, housekeeping, greasing, filter changes. Communicate any needed repairs or work requests via the plant work order system. Use SAP to receive inbound materials and create BOLs for outbound shipments. Prioritize work in order to support production and ensure uninterrupted plant operation through on-time delivery of raw materials and efficient removal of process scrap. Transport materials to the production department complying with FIFO procedures. Clean Fork-Lift-Trucks and other handling equipment in accordance with ISO and BRC standards. Assist with the implementation and maintenance of CP systems, including performing internal audits as required. Safely exchange fork truck gas cylinders, refill fuel tank, or replace, re-charge batteries (whichever applies). Perform any other duty reasonable corresponding with the role. Knowledge/Skills/Experience Engineering or Technical Degree preferred. Previous forklift experience highly preferred. Ability to operate a forklift is required. Ability to read and write English. Ability to perform basic math functions. A basic working knowledge of computer systems, Microsoft Office, SAP. Ability to function both independently and as part of a team; must be flexible and excited to grow with the organization.
