Responsible for ensuring the sterility of instrumentation and safety of the staff at the surgery center.Job Summary:
Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of surgical instrumentation and equipment. Performs documentation neatly and thoroughly for chemical and biological indicator testing. Performs other duties as assigned or required.Minimum Requirements:
Certification in Instrument Sterile Processing Current CPR certification required. Able to comply with patient confidentiality policy at all times.Job Performance Responsibilities:
Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment, and assembles, wraps and sterilizes trays of instruments. Oversees universal precautions as applies to instruments and equipment used in the OR. Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment. Maintains all sterilization logs. Notifies the OR Supervisor of any equipment problems, breakdown in sterile technique, or universal precautions Responsible for maintenance of instrument inventory. Arranges for repair of broken or damaged instruments. Purchases new instruments as needed and approved by the Clinical Director Maintains an updated file of surgeon preferences Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to staff and physicians in a timely manner. Assists with assembling surgical trays, necessary equipment, and supplies for upcoming surgeries Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory, submits requisitions, collects and distributes instruments, rigid containers, and facility medical equipment. Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and in equipment storage areas. Verifies that equipment functions properly, completes requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment. Maintains a clean work area Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards. Arranges for repair of broken or damaged instruments. Maintains an updated file of instrument sets. Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are needed. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Assists with hall duties including but not limited to: Breaks down OR set-up after cases and assists surgical team in turning over room for next case as needed. Monitoring OR/Refrigerator/Back Hall temperature and Humidity Assembles biohazard boxes as needed Unpacks and stores supplies as needed Assists with stocking and cleaning OR's as neededPhysical Requirements:
Frequent tasks: lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, handling, sitting/standing for prolonged periods, reaching and twisting of weights up to forty pounds, lifting at heights ranging from the foot to above the head. Walking up to 8-10 hours, stooping, bending, balancing, climbing, reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive), crouching and sitting. Manual dexterity required to maintain use of stretchers, medical equipment, photocopy machine, telephone and other office equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and appropriately, normal eyesight and hearing. May be exposed to fumes, chemicals, cold, noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious diseases.Requirements:
